Anyone studied Post Grad Mid in Vic? If yes, which Uni and Hospital? What can you tell me about it? Did you still have to do Follow Through's? Where you happy with your Uni and Hospital?
Hi there I studyed post grad Mid in 2003 at VUT in st albans and did ALL clinicals at Sunshine hospital.
The uni i wasnt that impressed with (did nursing throught latrobe Bendigo and they were much more organised) But VU was conveneient for me.
Really enjoyed the course.
Loved Sunshine for clinicals.
They way ours worked was mon and tues palcements and wed and thurs uni. (after about 3 weeks at uni we did 5 days staraight placements, and at end of year we did 5 weeks of 5 days a week to consolidate.)
Had to get 20 births.
Did 1 follow throught per semester (1st semester was a normal uncomlicated pregnancy, 2nd semester was a complicated pregnancy)
No i didnt do the paid model. (they did offer 1 positiom then now they offer 2) but as well as having to fit in clinicals shifts and uni days tehy also have to work so many days in post natal.
It was just the way it was set up for us to get in clinical hours without needing large chucnks of time.
I worked at my other job every 2nd weekend and did casual shifts elsewhere.
Was a VERY full on year as working 3 days a week for money and also doing uni days and clinicals but very worth it.
Yes i still did a grad year as i feel they are VERY important for consolidating learning and skills.
I am still at same hospital i was a student at and then did a grad year i am now a clinical midwife specialist.
And nope didnt do any where near as many follow throughts as under grads. (may have changed since i did it but still wouldnt be as many as them)
