    Hungry puppy?

my staffy pup is about 8 weeks old and shes ALWAYS hungry and eats like a pig! it says on the cans to feed her half a can a day and like 1 cup of dry food, thats what she gets, maybe a bit more dry food as i dont measure it lol and when she eats she literally inhales it like she hasnt been fed for a month..
    is this normal or ?

    Hi Jess,

    Congrats on your pup!

Quick Q - have you wormed her lately? It's a good idea to worm all dogs regularly, and pups need more regular worming than adult dogs. Pop into your vet (for a visit, not an appointment) and get some worming treatment from them.

While you're there, have a look at the premium pet foods and have a chat. Usually vets are more expensive for pet food, but they sure know their stuff. Premium foods have a better blend of nutrition and you don't need to feed the dog as much. Also look at puppy foods, they are designed for growing pups and are best to be fed for the first year of life.

Having said that, my dog also inhales her food! I mix her food with a little water cause it slows her down and have broken her feed into 3 times/day which is better for tiny tummies.

Good luck with her, staffys are the best!

We had a beautiful staffy ( she lives with PIL now) and she was a big eater, we had to just give her a couple of small meals a day and resist the urge to feed her every time she wanted to be fed!

It is pretty hard to over feed a puppy. If she is that hungry then I would increase her food. They work off so much of it with their energetic monkeying about. Definitely make sure she is wormed though as a heavy worm burden will steal her nutrition. Make sure you split the meals into small amounts so she is getting enough at all times of the day.
