    rent assistance..

my rent assistance stopped being paid, as apparently after we moved house, i didnt return the rent certificate (which i never actually received and wasnt expecting it, so this created a whole drama coz we couldnt work out why my payments had dropped..) anyway, ive posted the certificate off, but since had 3 payments where my RA wasnt included.

will i be back paid for the three payments? i assume i would as i was eligible for it.. just wondering

two scerios here - one, they update to date of cancellation with all the info and you get back paid immediately (this is what normally happens)

two - the info gets updated but rather than being backpaid straight away, you'll get it at tax time when reconcilliation happens

one way or the other, if you meet the criteria, you'll get the dollars paid

We moved into our current house last Jan (08). In August I realised we werent getting Rent Assistance so I got a letter from the agent sating when we moved in and how much we pay per week. I took it into centrelink, the lady processed it and said I will be back paid to when we moved in and the $ will be in my account in 2 days - which it was!

    Good luck with your claim

I usually take my lease in for them to photocopy. Means no certificates required to be handed in for the duration of the lease, and it always ensured backpay (I got cut off because the little twerp who lived here before me was too lazy to change his address and they thought we both lived here. Ugh) as it has the dates for start of rental payment requirement.

Yeah I've always taken the lease in too, but if you are outside your lease you now have to fill out a rent certificate every 6 months. Just so you know

parts of the rent certificate need to be filled out whether you have a lease or not now...
