Thumbs down Need a cry - fever (bit of a vent)

I'm not crying yet, but I'm so close.

DS started to feel a bit off & was a bit clingy yesterday.
Last night he had a slight fever.

6am it was 38.1 - gave him some panadol to try & get him to sleep.
10am it was 38.9. Had nothing to give him, all out of panadol but asked mum to get some nurofen while she's in town.
12pm 38.9 still after trying a bath to cool him down.
Gave him half a 2 year olds dose of Dymadon out of desteration. Nothing

He's had about 20 minutes sleep all day. I haven't been able to put him down even to go to the toilet.

He's vomitted twice from crying. He's been crying ALL day.

I just finally get him dozing on mum & dad's bed (out here hoping the change of scenery would help) then turned around to see DD1 hit & push DD2 in the head, near into a brick wall.

I lost it. Sent DD2 in to screaming DS, went off my head at DD1 & told her to sit on the lounge & not move.

Settle DS, just dozing again when DD2 comes screaming in holding her head...Thats it. Sent DD1 down to the shed where dad is working.

DS is finally sleeping. I hope its longer than 10 minutes this time.
& that mum gets home soon.

    Off to make a coffee.

How long should I wait before I take him to a gp do you think?
If I don't have a breakdown before then & end up there anyway

I went through this with DS (9m) yesterday. I finally broke the fever with panadol and nurofen and a tepid bath at 8pm last night. Prior to that he was up at 38.8 and I coulnt get it down. I did go to the dr and he said to give panadol, then 1hr later check temp and if not down, give nurofen, and repeat next time panadol is due. He said if I cant get the temp down after the second dose of nurofen, then to call him, but lucky with the tepid bath we got there.

I would, call the drs and try and speak to someone, and I would prolly try and see them. Just for peace of mind. Hang in there.... xoxo

I would normally over lap the panadol/nurofen like that, but someone on here said they've decided that its not a good idea anymore & not to do it.

Well he's been sleeping, with alot of tossing & turning & grizzling for nearly an hour now.
I've put him back to sleep once & DD1 went it & got him back once too
Hopefully he feels a bit better when he wakes up & mum gets here with the nurofen soon!

No, I've actually never heard of it!
He's awake & screaming at me again. He won't take water from a bottle. I''ll try a cup
His nappies are low, so I gotta get more into him

I personally found that DS was better with nurofen for this illness, it made him more settled than the panadol. The Dr said he had a red throat, so maybe the anti-inflam properties of the nurofen were better for my DS. I was not sure about the overlaping panadol and nurofen, but for two doses, I did it. But whatever you feel comfortable with.
And if you cant get his temp down, call the DR. xo

Last time DD had a temp like that the Dr had me give 1/2 dose panadol & 1/2 nurofen at the same time and then every 4 hrs after...temp came down after 2nd dosing and she was calmer too...Hope your DS is feeling better soon...would he have ice or frozen fruit.

BJ - it is fine to give them together or even alternating. However, you will get a better and longer lasting result by giving them at the same time. So if the correct dose of panadol for your child is 2ml and the correct neurofen dose is 4 ml, you give the 2ml of panadol and 4ml of neurofen at the same time.

I think that considering you've only given the one dose of panadol thus far, I'd hang out until until the fever has been happening for 24hrs unless he has other symptoms. Remember that fever is the bodies way of fighting whatever is happening. Fever in itself is not bad. If the fever was not coming down with neurofen, then perhaps I'd take him off to the GP. Good on you for giving him a tepid bath and reducing his clothing - perfect thing to do.

    How is he now?

Well he's had a dose of nurofen & boob in the shower. Dozing off now.
Not even feeling hot at all. Only been 5 minutes out of the shower though, so hopefully it won't creep back up.
At least 2 wee's in the last hour too

He's vomitting tonight. Threw up all over the table at Macca's today, yum!

Cut him off boob this arvo. So he's only on water now. Not too pleased with that.

Fever isn't too bad. Didn't have nurofen til about 5 today, coz he was cool. Started to warm up then though.
Cut him off boob coz the last 2 times he vommited was while feeding.

He's on the floor under my feet playing atm. Still hasn't slept too much today. Probably an hour & a half all up.
No boob over night will be hard, but the girls are staying at mums, so that helps.

Got his birthday party tomorrow Guess we'll have to make it a quick one

Lots of drool & is weeing ok for now. Was a bit down on the wee's today, but I think having 4 showers through the day helped. Just the water running into his mouth iykwim.

Oh dear BJ. Poor man! Have you been to the Dr? Almost sounds like gastro... Perhaps something like Peadalyte will help - it will keep him hydrated and give energy as well... Hang in there.
