Ok this is going to sound insane I know, but 2 days ago I sneezed and experienced an excruciating pain on my right hand side around my rib area . It was kinda like a stabbing pain, and now I get it whenever I sneeze, cough or even inhale too deeply when I yawn. I'm guessing it's muscular because when I push on the bottom of my ribcage it's uncomfortable but not painful as such. Anyone else had this happen to them?
Yep. All of my joints and ligaments tend to be a bit more painful when I am pg. It is caused by the hormone Relaxin. Unfortunately when bubs is kicking there it feels quite bruised too!!
I am 22wks and I have just started feeling this pain also. I read that the baby can be pushing on your upper area with there head or feet and your ribs can become bruised from the pressure.
I can empathise, but mine is not my ribs. The relaxins are working overtime at the moment and my entire pelvic region is in agony. It hurts to walk from the lounge to the bathroom, and given the amount of room this baby has left for my bladder - I am wearing a hole in the carpet from that walk! Its agonising and I pray that like all the other times, this stage passes (my sister gets SPD, I've never had it and I DONT want it!).
I find that sometimes it helps to find a new (sometimes strange) position to sit or lie in to take the pressure off the sore area. It my sound strange but rolling onto all 4s may help. Harry thumped into my upper abdomen the other day and it was causing me a great deal of upper chest pain. When I got onto all fours there was this almighty sharp twinge, and then everything was fine. Whatever was strained or twisted or whatever was given the room to right itself again. Might be worth a try.
