Help with HCG & Progesterone Result Please!

Hi, I was wondering whether someone could help analyse my results. I just had my first IVF treatment and had my pg bt on Friday. The result was positive, however my FS said my levels were on the average side. I had a repeat bt today and the levels have risen but he still thinks they are a little low and said he can't give me an indication as to whether this pg is viable yet.

    So, results are:

    Friday 6th March - HCG was 100 and Progesterone was 30 (16DPO) or (11dp5dt)
Today Monday 9th March - HCG is 440 and progesterone is 39 (19DPO) or (14dp5dt)

My next bt is not until Friday and the wait is seriously going to hurt.

    Can anyone offer any thoughts?

    Thank you

    Firstly congrats on your BFP!

Your results look fine to me hun. HCG is doubling every couple of days and your P4 is going up. Are you on progesterone support like pessaries or crinone?

I know it is hard not to over analyse everything and honestly your Drs comments are not helpful IMO.

your HCG doubling time is 1.4days

Beta hCG levels usually double approximately every 2 days for the first four weeks of pregnancy [1]. As pregnancy progresses the doubling time increases. By 6 to 7 weeks gestation beta hCG levels may take as long as 3 1/2 days to double [2,3]. The beta hCG may take more than 2 to 3 days to double in 15% of normal intrauterine pregnancies.
I would say you FS is a little iffy on prog levels they are a little low from what I beleive but it went up which is helpful

    best of luck

I agree with Rach. Also I think a progesterone level over 25 is considered ok for early pregnancy. Well at least it is for older women.

Thank you so much for your quick response! My clinic have basically said not to celebrate just yet so I am extremely concerned. I'm also very confused as all the HCG data I have googled show my levels to be in the normal range, so really not sure why they are so overly cautious about it?

Dusty, yes I am on progesterone pessaries morning and night.

Hun, plenty of women have had similar or even lower levels and gone on to have healthy happy babies.

I have learned that when it gets to this point while IVF has helped you to conceive it is now up to nature to take its course whatever that may be. Having progesterone support is a good thing.

It can be very stressful time and some call the first trimester after IVF or natural conception to be the 12WW. Only 4 more sleeps until your next BT. Take it easy and be kind to yourself. xx

I just posted a longer reply and lost it .

My p4 levels at 14, 16 and 20 dpo were 28, 30 and 26, so lower than yours. I went on 1x200mg p4 pessaries morning and night and the p4 levels eventually rose to 64 by 6weeks.

Also, my hcg was about where yours were.

Remember when googling information about p4 online, that there are two different measuring systems, nmol/l and ng/ml, and most australian blood test results are in nmol/l while american sites usually report ng/ml.

    Hope this helps!

Update on HCG & Progesterone result

    Hi again girls

I was hoping you could give me some more of your expert advice from my last bt today.

23DPO - My HCG level is over 2000 however my progesterone has dropped to 28. Do you think that this may be because I didn't use a pessarie before the bt this morning? - all other times I used a pessarie about 2 hours before the bt.

FS says I still should not celebrate too loudly for the next few weeks although he is happy the HCG level is increasing.

    What do you think?

Thanking you so very much in advance!

Hun you sound very pregnant to me! Congratulations on the great HCG level. I think your Dr is being overly cautious in not getting your hopes up. P4 levels can fluctuate a bit daily. Has your Dr mentioned upping your pessaries dosage? Some women take them 3-4 times a day depending on their Dr. Also some clinics recommend lying down for 30-60 minutes after taking the pessary to help their absorption. I don't normally bother but it may help reduce your anxiety about it.
Your Dr may also consider changing the type of progesterone support you are receiving for example to crinone.
    HTH!

Thanks Dusty. You always manage to cheer me up! I'm so tired of the "don't celebrate just yet" line... Yes, I believe he is being a little over cautious but secretly I am going to shout from the roof tops! I WILL TAKE THIS BABY HOME!

He didn't suggest upping my pessaries nor did he offer any alternative. I may give him a call on Monday. And yes I always lie to down for at least 30-60mins afterwards.

Thanks again Dusty. Your support and advice has been so reassuring.

Big hugs and lots of love x

dd : Hello my friend, I met a lady the other day who was successful with IVF, she told them she did not want to know her levels, as she would stress too much, she later found out she had a HCG of 51 !!!! and I met her gorgeous baby girl. You have wonderful HCG levels, ignorance is bliss ... DD, think positive xx

Hello my dear friend! Thanks for the story, it makes me feel a little more reassured. I think about you all the time but have been a little quiet on bb lately as I can't really concentrate on anything other than HCG levels atm.

I wish with all my heart this is your month and am praying with all my might for your BFP Please keep me posted as I really want to know how you're getting on.

Thank you for all your support and wonderful friendship x

your levels are looking great to me! I would be celebrating from the rooftops!!!!

oh ... just remembered something else from my early days too... before a progesterone test you are supposed to sit quietly and rest for at least 30 mins before they take your blood, otherwise the results wont be as accurate. (not sure if the tendency would be to make them higher or lower or what the exact reason is, but thats just what i was told by pathology nurse)
