I can totally sympathise![]()
So everyone raves about Flylady, so I thought I would check it out. From what I see, I really like it and I thought I would start the 'baby steps'. Well, the first one is to get your sink all clean and shiny.
So far, its been on my to-do list for the last 13 days. Still no clean sink!
I am a Flylady failure
Just venting my frustration....at myself! grrr....
I can totally sympathise![]()
Hey Jessica! Give yourself a break girl! It takes 28 days to break an old habit and a whopping 45 days to form a new one!
You also have a bub to look after! I'm just getting on top of the housework and Flynn has just turned 1!
Is it because the dishes aren't done that you can't clean the sink? If I have a big build up of dishes (I don't know how it happens but sometimes there are just mounds!!!) I sort them into nice piles and then do one pile and have a break (like BB break!!) and then put that pile away and then do another pile. Break your mountains into molehills!
HTH. You'll get there. You're not a failure BTW![]()
Oh hun I can totally sympathise. I am so unmotivated when it comes to cleaning, gave flylady a go but just cant do it! I sometimes keep my sink clean, but its usaully full of dishes!
dont be too hard on yourself!![]()
I started doing Flylady, got my lovely clean sink, but it didn't last LOL! Don't feel like a failure, feel like a normal woman! I think Flylady can make you put too much pressure on yourself, it's a great concept, but not always doable.
It's so distracting trying to get things like sink cleaning done and then trying to stay on top of it when you have kids! It's impossible to have an immaculate house until they move out LOL!
Is it because you can't get motivated or because your sink is too old to shine?
I also have looked at the FlyLady site but because my surfaces are old I don't get the buzz of satisfaction from scrubbing surfaces clean and therefore maintaining a routine. I swear that if we still lived in our previous brandnew townhouse I would be Flying daily and loving it!
I also find that the FlyLady site is um.... quite cluttered! How ironic hey? I find that it's layout is hard to navigate... and the homepage is a disgrace... you have to scroll down forever to read bits and pieces that have been tacked on the end. If only it was laid out as nicely as BellyBelly!!!I am a huge fan of neat and tidy web sites... and FL just doesn't cut it for me. I'm hoping that another one, preferably Australian, will surface.
ETA: I also personally don't like the aesthetics of her Logo....ugh... if I want to visualise a half person half fly then I'll stick to Franz Kafka! She seriously needs a stylist!!!

My old sink is hardly ever clean and I too feel like a failure.
Sometimes I think that if we had our own place rather than a mental rental I might try a bit harder to keep it shiny. But I doubt it...
As for flylady.... I'm emptying my yahoo inbox right now of 1053 new messages. I have never read one of her messages. Sorry, having a bit of a sad day today.
YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!!
One of the biggest things about flylady is its about loving yourself! so you haven't had a chance to get to shining your sink...how about just focusing on getting the dishes done before u go to bed each night so the sink is CLEAR when u get up...it'll give u just as much of a smile, and then work on doing the 'shining' when u have time![]()
Feel the same way about the site, think I even commented on it in another Flylady thread. FlyLady needs to be FlyLadied!
Have been looking around different organisation site (no I am not organised, just like to read about it) and it seems that people take from FlyLady different things. Some do not shine their sink, but they find something else that represents the same thing. I do have to say though, having a clean sink of a morning does make a huge difference to what I can get done during the day, so it is something I want to get started on again.

I found the sink shining easy when the sink was on the same level as I, but now I live on a different level of the house and don't go into the kitchen much it's neglected.
But instead, I clean my hotspot every night, and that makes me feel better each morning. And I swish & swipe, that really helps too.
Just find something and start, her things don't necessarily jell for all people.
Thanks all!! And thanks for telling me I'm not a failure- you made me feel all warm and fuzzy
I am in the process of devising my own system. By complete accident, I discovered something that worked as far as my kitchen. One night after dinner I was harping on DH about the dishes (the ones that don't go into the dishwasher) even though there wasn't that many and we had already done the dishes once that day. He gave a very long-suffering sigh and then picked up the dishes and put them on top of the dishwasher (which is the laundry) and shut the door and said "is that better?". And it was! As long as I can't see them and they are not cluttering up my kitchen, I can just do them once a day and its great. Now I have this nice clean looking kitchen.....just don't open the laundry door![]()
