    Unhappy Spots

DD has been very out of soughts this week and I put it down to teething, particularly given the appearance of a tooth on Thursday.
She's up to date on her immunisations but this evening I noticed a lot of red spots all over her back and neck and around her ears and a few on her tummy and head. She's 1 year old. Her last immunisation was 6th March and as you'd know it includes a measels immunisation.
I don't know if I should be concerned about something like measels or german measels or something like that. To the best of my knowledge, DD has not been in contact with anyone with any of those spotty illnesses during the past month.

I'll see if any more have developed tomorrow morning and if so I'll take her to the doctor. If it is anything like that though then how could it happen considering she's just been immunised?

    Hi there,

I'm not much help to you as to exactly what your DD's spots are, but I believe both measles and german measles are a "flat" rash - not raised bumps iykwim. I was at the dr on Monday to ask a similar question as my DS developed spots about 4 days after his 12-month shots. But, turns out he's got a mild dose of hand, foot and mouth disease. He's just got a few tiny blister-type things on his lower legs and feet, with a couple on his hands. It sounds like a gross condition, but it's actually pretty mild and non-itchy.

Could your DD have chickenpox? Might it be best to keep her isolated till you can get her to a dr?

    Hope she's ok.

The spots are flat. I really don't know how she could have contracted it if it is anything. Like I said, as far as I know she's not been in contact with anyone with any spotty illnesses in the past month.

I will see how she is tomorrow.

DS has broken out in a rash like that before I took him to the GP who said it can be teething related and told me it would be gone Sunday (we went on friday) I nearly laughed in his face but come Sunday it was gone...Weird.

Rashes also can appear at the end of an illness has she been a little sick?

Doesn't chicken pox start normally on your tummy or is that a myth?

They do not immunise for varicella (chicken pox) until 18 months.

Good luck hun hope it turns out to be nothing.

I am not much help as to what the spots are either as there are so many reasons for so many different types of spots, I hope for you that it is just teething related and not measles or chicken pox.

I hope that everything goes well for you at the doctors today.

    Good Luck

Back from the doctor and that is exactly what it is (phew).

She has a middle ear infection and is on antibiotics now. Has to go back to the doctor on Monday morning.

I am so glad it was just a viral rash. I hope her ear infection gets better soon.
