My daughter is 3 months old and has been suffering with eczema since she was six weeks. I am at my wits end now. I really don't want to use steroid creams. I have changed all her clothes to 100% cotton, changed washing powders, am using all different creams (dermeze, QV oil for bath and repair lotion, sorbolene to bath with, atopiclair which helps a bit but doesn't take it away and medihoney which seems to burn as my daughter cries when I put it on so I stopped this one) I've tried eliminating dairy from my diet as I am breastfeeding and now egg. She is getting worse. I have an appointment for an allergist and dermatologist but only in over a months time. She scratches at her face all the time and her entire body is covered in eczema. Her skin feels like sandpaper. Her sister had a milk allergy so I am presuming she has some sort of allergy as well. My question is - if it is the food I am eating that is doing this to her, wouldn't it be better to stop breastfeeding and put her on soya. Has anybody tried this and did it work? Please give me some advice.
My DS1 had it pretty bad and nothing seemed to help. The only thing you didnt mention that you probably already know it to not overheat rashy bubs and aggravate the eczema.
I wouldnt stop b/f until you saw the specialist AND after some testing or whatever.
Upon whose advice did you eliminate dairy? Just curious ... it might be worthwhile seeing a dietician after the allergist also for both you and bubs as she nears starting solids in a couple of months time.
Good luck - I am lucky DS1 has mainly outgrown it finally, just suffers in classic spots like behind the knees and arms, and DD has it on knees and arm creases - but flares up adn down with the weather. DS2 seems to have escapred so far - I am so relieved.
I agree. If you have good proof that your BF is causing the eczema then it may be worth changing to a goat or soy milk based formula, or even to an elemental formula, but given that you already have a baby with an immunological problem (the eczema) and breast milk is usually an immune system booster and protectant, then I would advise you to do further testing to be sure that your breast milk is causing the problem.
Can you find a good kenisiologist near you? They can treat this with no medication or creams etc. It got rid of both my DD's eczema.
If you live in sydney I can recommend a good one.
