We have one for Milo, I haven't used it yet though.
MCHN reckons you shouldn't use them til 6 months, but with Milo being so big, I'm not sure why we couldn't use it now? Its not like he going to slip down into it..
I was having trouble with Eliza and unwrapping. So at 4 months she went into a sleeping bag with long arms. And has been a good sleeper since then. I have heard stories of the growbags because of the sleeveless feature they can get there little arms inside the bag.

Racheal, Indah has beeb rolling & throwing her blanket off so I bought a sleeping bag (winnie the pooh) from Kmart just a few days ago in a size 0, they had down to 000... She slept all night, even rolled but was still cevered, it has long sleeves, she also has a grobag thingy with singlet style sleeves but it is massive so once out of this one she will go into that one.
Try Kmart, they had them on Thursday...
Last night I thought it too hot to put her in it & she was awake from 9pm til 1am, then I swaddled her & she was still asleep when my sister came to get her at 7:30am...
I cant see why they are no good, I just put her in a nappy if it is a warmer night...
I had Lindsay in a sleeping bag with long sleeves at 3mths and Paige wore one from the start. Last winter Paige wore her dressing gown to bed because she was walking she didn't like her feet being closed in. It was good because she wore it before bed and didn't lose warmth by taking it off before going to bed.
Hannah was in her grobag from 4 months. It's too hot for her atm (1 tog) - but it's been the best thing on cool/cold nights! I'd like to find a lighter summer one...
We bought 2 grobags about 6 weeks ago and I am a convert. I wouldn't use anything else now, I just love them.
We have a 2.5TOG and a 1.0TOG, and they are so wonderful. Jenna is sleeping much better as a rule, so are we.... and the only thing I can attribute it to is these sleeping bags. She wakes up in the night and wiggles around, but still stays covered.
I personally didn't like the idea of the ones with arms, or anything made from polar fleece, but I stress this is just me. I'm a quilt person, not a doona girl, so I'd like my baby to be in the same covers as me.
If you are happy with the cheaper ones, go for them!! Specially when they are $5 (compared to my $60)
I wouldn't worry about arms slipping in as they seem to be very comfy.
Maybe your MCHN was confused and meant 6 weeks? As that is the age that they (the Grobag makers) recommend grobags can be used from. (I think they recommend wrapping bubs until at least 6wks old)
We bought Aidyns for him when he was 6 weeks I think, or maybe he was 8 weeks, but it was no later than that, and we certainly never had any problems with it. It is probably the #1 thing on my list of useful things for bubs, LOL.
We used grobags once winter set in ( we had a Late March baby) i would still wrap her in a muslin cloth as well.. I wrapped my DD until 14 months, when she finally worked out how to get out! So last winter she wouls kick off the bed cloths! So the grobag gave us all heavenly sleeps! I am going to grab some from their website for next babe ( they are on sale! )
I have Maria in a grow bag if the weather is cooler, she is a little hudini with her wrap so I had little choice, plus she wriggles around in circles in her cot in a wrap, at least in the growbag she stays put.
We put James in a sleeveless sleeping bag (by Snugtime, from Myer) at 3 months, and he sleeps so much better without blankets to kick off and get tangled in. I also bought a long-sleeved one for cooler nights (although also just change his jimmy-jams to long or short-sleeved romper with weather conditions). I saw Bonds polar fleece ones in BigW today too.
Living Textiles make really nice quilted bags for cooler weather (2.5 tog), like grobags but about half the price - and I bought mine on ebay! \/ Lurvvve ebay....
I am really confused about grobags - what to wear and terminology. I live in Canberra where is gets very chilly. I bought a 2.5 grobag for this winter for my 4mth old. When people talk about longsleeve bodysuits, are these the ones without legs? If so, does this mean that babys have nothing on their legs under the grobag? Anyone out there who lives in Canberra or a similar climate who can tell me what their baby wore under the grobag and whether they heated the room?
We live in Tassie and at night we try to keep the room heated to around 17-18 degrees. Kynan has a winter LTC sleeping bag which I think is equivalent to the 2.5 tog grobag. Under that he usually wears a singlet and a bonds wondersuit. If I think it may get cooler I'll put extra clothing on him. HTH.

If it is getting very chilly where you are in winter then I would recommend definately putting at least a long sleeve AND legs/feet bodysuit on your baby. Ie. a Bonds wondersuit. You actually may even need to put an extra layer, maybe a skivvy or something on top if you are not using heating in the room, as I've heard Canberra can be pretty cold?
Maybe compare it to what you wear when you go to bed? Do you wear long sleeve and leg pajamas in winter, and also sleep under a couple of layers of blankets? Then your baby will probably need a similar amount of layers to you, and I would definately recommend keeping his/her feet and legs covered underneath the grobag during winter.
