you don't apply - it is automatically generated if you paid tax last year

this does not mean paying tax and then getting it all back - you have to have had a tax liability

it is based on the last financial tax return

If you have last year;s 'notice of assessment' from your tax return, you can enter the dtails using the ATO calculator and it will tell you if you qualify.

i rang the ATO yesterday to check eligibility, the young guy was so nice and did all the sums for me.

there is also a calculator on the ATO website, which you could use to find out.

Also do you know, if both DH and I do apply; do we both get it or is it one per household? (if that question makes any sense???)

You'll both get it but as Briggsy said, you don't have to worry about applying!

If you paid tax - ie the ATO didn't refund to you 100% of what you paid in tax last year - you'll get it automatically.

there is a tool on the ato site that you enter you last years tax return details and it will tell you for sure whether you will get it or not.
