Not sure exactly which forum to put this in so feel free to move it if neccessary. My bub is almost 4 weeks old and I still don't have a nappy bag for out and about (she came early so I wasn't completely ready) and have been just using a green bag from my supermarket! I am thinking about sorting this out asap but am struggling to know where to even buy one from? Do baby shops have a good selection? Anyone know a good store in Brisbane? Any other places people have found them? Online stores people have been happy with? Just looking for some advice about the good 'ol nappy bag since it is something that will be used regularly!
Any messenger-type bag works well for nappies I find - you can get some lovely ones at DFO or kathmandu / hiking stores.
Having said that, Target has a large range of nappy bags to try out! Think about will you be wearing bubs in a sling / other carrier or using a pram? If using a pram, some have matching pram bags you can detach and carry. Having said that, for the first 6 months, I mostly used the bum-bag that matches the P&Ts pram, it was big enough for what I needed!
Yep, I would also recommend buying a nappy bag that is compatible with your pram. Nothing worse than having to shove the bag underneath in the cargo tray and having to rummage around for something on your knees.
This was how my pram and bag worked together when I used them... my youngest is toilet trained now.
I got my nappy bag from David Jones. It was a bit exxy at $149.00 bu I got it because I was given a voucher for DJ's.
Target, baby shops, myers also sell them. Target have some affordable ones. I think any bag will do though, have a look at bag shops.
One thing that I find is that when I take the nappy bag (which is whenever we go out), I dont take a handbag, but there are some rather large handbags that can look great doubled as a nappy bag.

I started out with a messenger style bag, but ditched it after I realised I couldn't use it easily one handed - one hand to lift the flap, and then use my arm to hold it up while I rummaged. I changed to ones that are a bit more tote style. I had an OiOi Carry All which was great, except that the zip broke to the point where I couldn't fix it anymore. I did like it though. Now I have an Isoki, which has a metal zip. It's not super light, but I don't do heaps of walking with a child without a pram or an unsuspecting bag-carrying husband.
Probably for a newborn you don't need a massive bag, so you could always just use a tote you have now and upgrade when the need arises.
I got a messenger style nappy bag from Target on sale for about $30 from memory. Weve only had a couple of outings with it so far and its done the job pretty well. Only concern I have with it is when I start using cloth nappies they will take up more room in the bag!!
I know how you feel about not using a 'nappy bag', I used to use very often, and now if its just Steph, a cloth shopping bag or some other big shoulder bag (a big square Emily the Strange one that looks like a guitar amp!). And I just have a green bag in the car with spares of everything for both kids.
The nappy bag I use lots is a second hand Babygear tote bag (I bought it for $3, new $33 from bigw- you can view them online before going shopping). It holds a lot, but maybe not quite enough space for two kids (but it has two insulated bottle pockets), so I am longing for another (also from bigw, its called annique 'free spirit', just a bigger tote bag, but really swish looking I think. I think it would be quite suited to slinging over my shoulder when the kids are bigger, and as Mum I know I'll have to carry half the house, especially swimming or something like that).
When Steph was born, the Man bought me a rather expensive nappy/change bag, which I used a lot, then just sort of dropped off. Its a messenger style. I've just started using it again actually when I go to someones house, as it has a change mat when you 'unfold' the bag.
We use a small size normal backpack - it's been brilliant. Hangs easily over the pram handles, easy to get into and fits everything I need. I didn't even have to buy it as we had a whole pile of bags already. But if I did have to buy it, it would have been very inexpensive. I couldn't believe the prices of nappy bags when I first started looking!

With my first 2 dd's, I used a Kapoochi, backpack - and it was fabulous. Dh was happing to carry it around too. It fitted so much in.
For my 3rd dd, I wanted something a little more modern and went with the gr8x . I got it from Babies Galore. It was great, but I'd have to say I preferred my backpack.

I use a backpack too. I got one cheap at a market. I have cosmetic bags to hold things together inside it and I have a change mat that I can fold in and stick in there as well. It is great to just be able to put it on my back and not worry.
I ordered a bag online and it arrived this morning
It is an over-the-shoulder bag and looks great. Still have to take it for a test drive but have it all packed up and it seems fantastic. Really love it.
