mould on canvas/cotton drill

Why do people leave damp things tied in plastic bags for their unsuspecting partners to find, weeks later?

OK, so I have soaked it in vinegar, am I right in assuming that this will kill the mould? I left it in for a good 24 hours.

Is there a way to actually get the mould/staining off though??

I have been wondering this too. I don't know how valid it is but I think a good dose of sunshine can't hurt.
Will be interesting to see what others suggest
