    Question BV and watery discharge

I am 30 weeks preg and yesturday looked down and saw my pants were all wet, it wasn't urine because it didnt smell. I went for a check up and my ob said I hadn't broken my waters. Since the start of my pregnancy I've had BV (Bacteria Vaginosis) which I didn't treat as I was told it was natural and non threatening. At the start of this week however I was told to start treating it as it's presence hightened the risk of preterm labour. My ob seems to think that all the watery discharge gushing out of me yesturday was to do with my BV liquidifying. Has anyone else had the same experience? To me this really doesn't explain why so much watery stuff came out of me (I had to change my clothes 3 times and sit on a towel in the car on the way to the clinic)!!! This first happened to me 3 days ago and then yesturday (which was the worst), the watery stuff has no smell and looks as clear as water; from what I've read BV is spos to be fishy smelling and murky sticky stuff. I'd also like to know if there is anyone out there that has BV and has come into preterm labour?

Wow, is there really no one who can offer any feed back on this topic? I'm a first time mum2be so I find I'm calm when I should be pannicking and pannicking when I should be calm! I revealled more detail in my first post then I ever would usually, in the hope that maybe even one person out there could tell me either; there is need to be concerned or there isn't! Pls if you've got any feed back it would really help me.

I wish I could help you. I think the fact that it is clear and there isn't a smell is probably a good thing. Are you still experiencing the same amount? I hope your Dr has been able to put your mind at ease. Are there any other symptoms that go along with BV?

Oh I'm sorry you're stressing, can you go back to your Dr?

I didn't have BV and to be honest haven't heard of it so can't give any advice. However when I was about 38 wks pg I thought my water had broken in bed, I had a big gush and had to change my pj's, but it wasn't enough to need a towel like you... Turns out it was just A LOT of CM that was being produced preparing for labour, it had no smell and was clear like water. So perhaps thats what your was?

Maybe you could call the hospital and speak with a midwife to put your mind at ease?

Thanks for replying Teme, I was starting to feel I'd touched on some sort of "don't go there" subject!
I feel I know nothing about what's happening to me! I'm waiting to get my test results back, but the docs think the watery discharge maybe a side effect to the treatment (Dalacin V cream) I'm on for the BV which finished its course last night. They said over the wkend if it got worst at any point and I was worried to call the hospital, it did get bad on saturday but I didn't know if it was bad enough to call the hospital; I didn't and I felt better in the morning. I felt good enough Sunday morning that I slowly woddled around the market for less then 30mins; this proved to be borderline painfull and very wet (but I picked up a couple of things for the baby's room so I was uncomfortable but happy). My partner says I should relax and enjoy resting, but I'm a stressful rester; I get bored and my bum gets sore! If it is a side effect to the treatment then hopfully it'll clear up over the next couple of days.
I found that when I was researching BV I was more interested in real peoples experiences rather than fact sheets, however there isn't really that much stuff that covers both BV and watery discharge (whether they're related or not I don't know). So hopefully even though this thread has no real answers yet, it may work to just comfort others who are having the same experience!

Excuse my naivity, but whats CM Kristin? I think since the clinics open again today I might call my ob, I just didn't want to get stuck in hospital over the wkend if I didn't need to. As for the stressing, I'm not sure wether I should be stressing or not, so I'm having moments where I feel really calm and then moments of pannick!

Bacterial Vaginosis is usually an infection, which is why in most women that suffer it, it smells. It smells like tinned sardines . Pregnancy does cause increased CM, and it can be quite watery, but not enough to completely soak your underwear and pants. Over the course of a day you may find that your undies feel wet, but not soaking.

There is a thread somewhere with how to tell if your waters have broken. From memory you go to the toilet and fully empty your bladder, then you either cough or stand and sway your hips, if you feel a fair bit of wetness than it could be your waters. Amniotic fluid is meant to smell like semen, but personally I can't smell semen so I dont know what it smells like.

    Hey Hun,

Hopefully I can help you! I had BV pretty bad from 13 - 19 weeks. Not too bad to start with but by the time i was 19 weeks it was awful - i so know where your comming from.

I know that most women get a yuck smell from their discharge with BV but i didnt, so i guess maybe that varys women to women?? I had quite a bit of discharge as well - and i also took myself to the hospital to check that i hadnt torn my waters, because I had so much discharge. Not to the extent of sitting on a towl - but close too! and it was exactly as you describe - very watery, but not smelly at all.

I was placed on a course of antibiotics, which because i had it so bad didnt work - so i had a second round and that seemed to do the trick. I did a fair bit of research and spoke to a number of midwifes, GP, and OB/GYN about it. For me i found that the BV was being caused by a build up of bad bacteria caused by thrush. I foudn that once i treated the thrush - in addiditon to the antibiotics for the BV this cleared it up. Plus i started taking a probiotic to stop future thrush- and i havent had either since.

When you have had BV once during your pregnancy you are prone to getting it back again. Another less known fact about BV is that whilst it isnt a "true" STI it is sexually transmitted, but you can get it even when not sexually active. So basically your partner could be carrying the germ that is causing it in you. Whilst he wont have any symptoms or anything like that you may be giving it back and forth to each other during BDing which is why your antibiotics are not working. As much as it sucks - maybe try use condoms for the remainder of your pregnancy, just in case this is the case - or at least until your infection is well and truely gone anyway.

Hope this all helps you hun - i know how uncomfy it is!!
