How do you know when you have 'dropped'?

How do you know when you have dropped? I know that it can feel easier to breath as there is no longer so much pressure on your diaphram (sp?), but I have only occassionally been breathless during this trimester and people have been telling me that I am 'low' for a few weeks???

Also, when is it normal to 'drop' in comparison to when your baby comes? (ie a week before, etc)??

    Hey Joey,

My babe engaged at 34 weeks - much earlier than I would have thought it would happen. Doc says its great and it doesnt mean that babe is coming early. I can't help worrying about it though and I'm pretty much ready to go to hospital anytime from now just in case!

I couldnt tell when it happened, but after the doc told me I realised that I had been breathing easier for a few days. Nothing drastically different though.

I never 'felt" that feeling. In saying that my baby didnt engage until 40wks but I still didnt feel any different for the last two weeks.

One thing that I did have less of was heartburn, but I couldnt tell by looking at me.

Not long to go. Good luck

for me, i knew DD had dropped as i could quite literally feel her head butting on my cervix (sorry if TMI!). also, when i sat down too fast i would get a pang 'down there' (again, head butting my cervix lol!). another sign was the 'waddle' that became almost comical as again her head was really in the way...

she dropped at 35 weeks for me and arrived at 38 +2...
