    blood in urine??

im on the phone now, trying to get an appt at docs,.
I have taken jbabys nappy off to change him and right where his penis would have been is all red staining on the nappy, there is no broken skin or anything so im thinking poss a urine infection or something, he seems fine but it freaking me out!
should i get a urine sample to take with me? has anyone else had this happen? ds is 6months.

i did some googling and if he has any of these symptoms - Fever; bloody, odd-smelling, or cloudy urine; irritability; vomiting; frequent or painful urination; refusal to eat; pain in abdomen or pelvic area, lower back, or under ribs. than chances are its a urine infection!

Don't worry about getting a sample, but definately take him to dr's. They'll help you get a urine sample.
    Hope he's ok, good luck.

Red staining is not necessarily blood. Ketones leave a pink stain, but will signal dehydration. Hope you are into the doctors now, if not you would also be fine to call an ambulance. When I called the Dr when Em had ketones they told me to call an ambulance and get seen to immediately. Hope it is nothing too serious hun, but any pink staining in his nappy is something to be concerned about and will be see to at the hospital quickly.

MMmmmm I would take him to ED, UTI's are important to get checked out.

Dont bother going if you dont have a sample...they wont give your little one anything until they can determine if it is a UTI or some other infection.
My DD#2 has had it for a few days, we finally got a sample the other day and took it too Drs - there was blood in urine too....she on AB now.
    Good luck !

Actually, mbear, that's not the best advice. If you are unsure whether it is blood in the urine or not, I agree, you should at least be seen in ED. They might send you away again, but at least you will be assessed, and they will probably help you get a urine sample that they can do a preliminary urinalysis on there and then.

And you need all the help you can get to get a urine sample from an infant! A sticky bag from drs definately helps.

ok, well we just got home! they put a sticky bag on him and got a sample, i was seen to pretty quickly, no signs of infection, but definately blood in urine.
could be one of three things they said, possibly from overexertion at swimming yesterday, or dehydration, they have told me to start giving him water everyday , or it could be some ther thing where if they get sick for some reason they get blood in their urine, aparantley very common and nothing to worry about, but i have all his blood test results and they are doing a culture and will follow it all up with the gp soon as possible.
pfew!! crisis over!! I think I need a lie down now....

Glad you are on the way to some answers. A lie down sounds good, what a big day you've had compared to me, i'm still lounging around in my PJ's.
