I've bought a stash of Happy Heiny's and extra PUL covers for night time and just love em'. But I'm worried that I'm damaging them because the aplix closers tend to open during a wash cycle and everything comes out a tangled mess.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?
I have tried putting pegs over the aplix to help hold them shut but this doesn't seem to make much difference. And I've considered putting the machine on a slower spin cycle, but I don't think that would be a long term solution because they'll take longer to dry in winter...
Help - I don't want to damage these gorgeous nappies!
Yeah, they do and I always use them. And I've started putting a peg each one too for added reinforcement, but they keep coming open and sticking to everything - my other HHs, PUL covers, inserts, etc etc.
This is one reason why I hate using velcro tabs and have gone to snaps. I could never stop them from coming undone. Be fastidious with lint in the hook and gentler wash cycle could help. Since I got my front loader I do have less problems with this happening and attribute it to the gentler action of the washer compared with the top loader.
It happens to me too, but mine mostly just stick to each other. The other velcro, & the binding on 2 of my covers. The don't really stick to any of the others, but I don't like how its pulling threads on the binding.
I have no idea what could help, sorry
It happens to my HH too, its a pita. I cant think of anything to use to keep it together without ruining the washing machine. Hopefully someone else can help us all
Have you tried a lingerie bag - read somewhere that someone puts nappies that have the problem that you've described in individually lingerie bag and then in the washing machine and that solved it for them while they used that nappy. ( Haven't tried it yet - bubs still cooking away.) I would suggest using one of the more closed bags than the mesh bags for the nappies.
So no easy fixes to this problem... what a bummer...
Thanks for the gentler cycle suggestion Raven. I put my last load thru on a slow cycle but it still came out a tangled mess. Augh!
And Liz, I've got a few lingerie bags, I'll try that next.
And I was just in Spotlight today and I picked up some extra velcro strips and will cut them down to size and try sticking the loop part of it onto the sticky velcro of the nappy... but I'm not holding my breath...
SUCCESS!! I bought some extra 'soft' velcro strips from Spotlight, and cut them down to size and stuck them over the 'hook and loop' velcro tab and it worked on every single nappy. I did it to all eleven nappies in the wash (so 22 tabs in all) and they ALL stayed put!! YAY!
My husband thought I was crazy when I showed him what I'd done!! hehe
