Angie is the same. CJ is getting there. Generally teens and pre-teens need 9 or 10 hours, but it really depends on the person. Some people are good with only 5 hours. My DH is one of those people. I need more than that, LMAO.
just curious about sleep hours for older kids
my 11 yo ds tends to go to sleep about 10:30 pm and wakes around 8 am - so less than10 hours per night
he does sleep in a bit later on weekends but also goes to bed later
my oldest ds did similar so it seems normal to me .. but what are other kids doing??

At that age I had my DD in bed by 8.30 -9.00pm, but she could read or whatever until lights out at 9.30pm. She always woke well for school which is important cos I'm grumpy then myself...
I think they need stacks of sleep, and tbh - I want the kids out of the way by then, and time to myself.
My dd who turned 13 today goes to bed at 9pm and lights off at 9.30pm.
When she was 11 it was bed at 8.30 and lights off at 9pm.
If i have trouble getting her up in the mornings she goes to be half an hour earlier the next night, usually works.lol
I was always sent to bed at 8:30 when I was that age. We were allowed to read as well until 9:30.
10:30 is MY bedtime!!!![]()
DD9, goes to bed at 8.30, though she does usually drag it out to 9pm some nights. By 8.30, I don't want her watching whatever shows are on then.
On the weekends, she usually stays up later though
We are up around 7.15am.

thanks for your replies
I'm not so interested in "bedtime" as actual hours spent sleeping - would most of you agree with inertia that 9-10 hours is what they are having?
I have heard that the hours of sleep before midnight are more valuable than those after it, not sure if that is an urban myth though!
10 or more
