    Angry Green Kids MCN's

    Hi ladies,

I am VERY new to cloth and bought only 6 to try out on my 18 month old to decide if this is the way we will go with bubby #2 (not that we're pregnant yet, but we are fast approaching TT with DD so thought I'd try while theres still a bit of time).
I looked around for over a month before deciding on green kids. I saw on here a few people recommended them and do know of a few people that use them.
I washed the nappies and liners as per manuf. recommendations (hemp in a warm wash x3 and bamboo in hot wash x 1) and every time I have put the nappies on my DD she soaks through them within the hour!!! So I thought I'd try a booster in the as well as the liner and that only gives us 2 hrs!!! It does say for heavy wetters to use 2 liners during the day, but that is so bulky her pants don't fit her!
What could I possibly be doing so wrong that she soaks through so quickly. I hav only used the anytimes nappies and not even bothered to put the funtimes on her (as they aren't as absorbent) and I have also tried both hemp and bamboo liners!!!

It seems like I've just waisted $200 on 6 nappies, because I can't be changing nappies every 30-45 mins to ensure she doesn't soak through.
Has anyone else had this prob??? Does anyone know of anything I could be doing so wrong?
    Thank you in advance!

have you tried using a microfibre insert on top of the bamboo and hemp? I have found, that if I don't use a microfibre one, he pees too quickly and the bamboo doesn't have the chance to absorb it all. Whereas, microfibre is faster to absorb the liquid, and then it seeps into the bamboo slower. Never get leaks that way.

Oh - and I always give hemp and bamboo a good 7 washes before expecting them to be at their full absorbency - but that could just be me!

    HTH!

I think just give the bamboo and hemp a bit more time to reach their maximum absorbency. For us it took about 10 washing and drying cycles before they worked really well. I love Green Kids and we never have any leaks here either. MCNs can take a bit of getting used to, they can be a bit fiddly at first. I hope they do end up working for you.

I have never had any leaks in mine either. I use the bamboo insert and bamboo booster... (will be getting some microfibre ones later.

I have found alot of coverted people who arent used to changing as frequently... I change every 2-3 hours. Over night i have been using a pop-in or my Maz NN and some nights DD can out wee them

Also if there bulky and pants cant fit buy some babylegs/huggalugs so u can show off the cloth butt and not have to worry bout finding pants to fit...

It's rare for my bubs to get longer than 2 hours. The only ones that do are BBB's or night nappies! I think that is one of the hardest adjustments to make when you change over from sposies.

From what I understand it's not so much the nappy but the booster not coping with the volume?
Your boosters need about 10 washes for maximum absorbancy and hemp doesn't hold as much as bamboo.

It can be a bit of trial and error in the early days to get what works for you right.
I have some green kids but didn't buy their boosters as I'd rather make my own so I don't know what they are like.
If you can sew or know someone who does then if you could get some bamboo fleece and make your own boosters.

as suggested by others, it may be that they need to be washed a few more times. My DS lasts up to 5 hours in a bamboo GK - depending on how much he has had to drink.

With my son i fold the front of the microfibre down and stuff it in with a bamboo insert so the thickest part is over his widdle.. I think with girls you can fold it more towards the back.. Ive never had a leak with mine. (Yet)

GK was the first MCN I bought too.
    I have 2 hemp inserts, a bamboo insert & 2 bamboo boosters.
The hemp inserts last for ages. I can put in a booster with an insert & they can go all night.
It does take a good while to get them working properly. I'm planning on getting more of their inserts soon. They are a great fit with other brands too.

I have had issues with GK too on my 18 month old. They just don't last and they leak out the sides of the legs as they are really wide in the crotch so the insert folds up and leaves the outer cover exposed. Try what the others have suggested! Also I fold up another bamboo booster (tri-folded) inside the pocket but it does make it bulky. But I can get over an hour with just the one bamboo insert that you buy with it. They just don't suit my DD is the long and the short of it.
ETA- I just buy one or two of a nappy until I see that it is a good fit and size on DD before buying any more...
