It's time to share some names...

I can't keep our selection of names to myself any more so I'm sharing with you guys and welcome all opinions!

We don't know what we're having so we have a few names of each. I'm hoping to scale the lists back to three of each and then we'll see what suits Tarko best when we finally meet!

Boys: middle name will be Ash or Matthew
    Oliver
    Isaac
    Joshua
    Hamish

Girls: middle name will be Elsie
    Soraya
    Isobel
    Jazlyn
    Addison
    Lylah
    Lexi

    I think

    Oliver Ash
    Isaac Matthew

    Addison Elsie
I love Lexie but it the 'e' sounds is too overdone with Elsie.

I like Isaac and Hamish best for a boy. Personally I wouldn't use Ash as a middle name with either Joshua or Hamish though - too many sh sounds for my liking.

For a girl I like Lylah/Lila or Lexi. I agree with cookiemonster about the Lexi Elsie thing too.

Good point about Lexie and Elsie - they don't flow all that well. Elsie is a definite though (my nans name and gorgeous step-grans name) so we may have to wipe Lexi off the list. Although, you rarely say the full name anyway so it might still be ok. Lexi is just so cute!

Thanks so much for the feedback girls! Keep it coming!!!

I love Addison - but I'm biased - Addisyn is one of Miss M's middle names

    I like Soraya

And I like Hamish Matthew for a boy out of your list

Lexi (Lexie) is my middle name and I really like it! It is actually on our list as a first name! I think Lexi Elsie sounds ok whether you use it together or not. You could swap the letters around and have Lexi Elise (maybe.....)
I like Oliver Ash for a boy.

I like all your boy names & middle names! So that doesn't make it easy...
I do however think that Joshua sounds better followed with Matthew, as Joshua Ash is a bit of a mouthful when you say it together- the sh followed by another sh.
I also think that Hamish needs to be with Matthew - as Hamish Ash is too much sh..sh sounding.
Oliver Ash sounds cool - and actually, Issac flows better with Matthew too - the 'ac' sound followed by 'Ash' is kinda similar.
Having said all that, the middle name is only something that will appear on legal documents etc, and you are unlikely to hear them said aloud together very often - so if you like something - who really cares??? I'm just being really picky to help you out!!!

Now for girls..... my 3 faves are Soraya, Jazlyn & Lylah.
I personally don't like Addison (reminds me of Maths ), Isobel is nice but SO common right now, and Lexi is cutesy but more of a nickname IMO. Plus I agree it doesn't go with Elsie very well.
Soraya is likely the most unique and I think very feminine and soft sounding - prob my 1st choice there. What about Siraya? I like that spelling even better.....

    Goodluck deciding!

Hey, I like that spelling for Soraya. 'Siraya' could really grow on me! Thanks for all your comments too JellyBean, it's what I need to hear to make our decision a little easier.

Thanks HEAPS everyone. You've really opened up my eyes to a few things I hadn't thought of with the names we've chosen.

Soraya has been in the back of my mind for years, after I spoke to a lovely, bubbly girl called Soraya at a call centre once. I thought it was beautiful and unusual and still do. I always said I wouldn't go for 'different' names but this one really is winning me over. For those of you who are interested, here are some details behind the name (and why I'm liking it even more!):
    - the name means Rich and Princess - what a combination!
    - although an Arabic name, it's popular in Spain - DH and I LOVED Spain while travelling
    - my grandfathers name is 'Raymond' - we would happily shorten Soraya to 'Ray' (as a nickname)
    - it works well with 'Elsie' - my two grandmother's names (step gran is still alive, nan is not)
    - it's also the name of open cluster of stars in the constellation Taurus - my star sign!

OK, so maybe I've looked into it just a tad too much but gee it is a pretty name with so much behind it.

DH doesn't like Addison (but he said he'll think about it), his fave is Isobel and although I love Isobel too, it is SO popular now. I really like Addison though (and sadly, love her character on 'Private Practice'!!!)

Oh, my fave boys names are Oliver and Hamish so I'm glad to see the majority of you agree!

Thanks again - your thoughts have been so helpful!!

PS: the reason we like Ash - it's DH's initials. Matthew is the back up as that was my maiden name (well, a shortened version of my maiden name)

I love Soraya I think its unusual and very feminine. I think Eslie is a cute middle name too.

Of the boys I adore Oliver and I actually don't mind Ash - Oliver Ash. I think Matthew makes the name feel long to say ie too many sylibles (sp?) but thats just my opinion

    I also love Isaac Matthew.

FWIW - all but Hamish on your boys list are my fav boys names

I like Soraya and Addison for a gil.

For a boy, Hamish or Joshua.. (I am biased though, Hamish is the only boys name that DH and actually agree on at the moment, and Joshua is off our list as it is my cousins name.. )
