    Laser resurfacing on dark skin

I'm sure I read somewhere that it can't be used on dark skinned people, but I can't recall reading why. Anyone have any ideas why dark skinned people can't have laser resurfacing, esp on the face?

I'm no expert but my belief is that it can affect the pigments in the skin (in the melanin layer) and cause pale blotchy spots........someone with more knowledge may have more info.....

Sush I just found this when I googled...

Because some lasers can temporarily or permanently discolor the skin of African-Americans, Asians, and Hispanics, a dark-skinned patient should make sure that his surgeon has successfully performed laser procedures on people of color.

    Thanks ladies,

I found some other info that said the same thing. TBH I don't care how experienced the Dr is, I think I'm leaning towards being too chicken to risk it. My lapband scars are still dark red nearly 4 months on, so I can only imagine what kind of pigmentation problems I may get on my face!

Apparently I can't use microdermabrasion either! Oh well, just going to have to live with my blotchy skin....
