Pure coconut oil, how do you use it?

I have just recently moved near Footscray, and have discovered so many amazing Indian/Asian grocers and stores around the area, I love it. My favourite scent in the world is coconut, and I've decided instead of spending buckets of $$ every month on moisturizers, hair treatments etc I would give pure coconut oil a go. I have heard/read about its amazing benefits as a moisturizer, hair treatment, and even massage oil and lubricant lol. Lots of Indian women use it for their hair, which always looks so silky soft, and the idea of my hair and body smelling of coconut rocks. I was just wondering if anyone has used coconut oil for cosmetic purposes or know anyone who has, and how you found it.

Yep it's great and I've used it for all of that! Whilst I did find it nice in my hair you really do need to be extra careful not to put too much in or it will just look oily, I now use a proper leave in conditioner but if that runs out and I need something else in the mean time I will still use coconut oil. It's wonderful on the skin and we use it to massage regularly, it sets as a solid in colder months but as soon as you scoop it out and put it on your warm skin it goes runny again, it's actauly easier to work with that way anyway. You can also cook with so it's all round great stuff! Make sure it's organic though and pure, it has a nice aroma to it but it shouldn't 'smell strongly' like coconut iykwim if it does they have put perfume in it.

Thanks for your reply. Yep I am a convert well and truly now, love it. I use it in my hair as a weekly overnight treatment, massage it in, then tie my hair up and put a shower cap on and let it absorb. In the morning I rinse it out and then shampoo and condition as normal. I have naturally very curly hair, so it is drier by nature. I had it cut into a short bob recently though, so now I straighten every day, which adds to the dryness, so the oil balances that out well. Haha, yes it froze, I was so suprised, I didn't realize it's freezing rate was so low (or high lol). Mine is in a bottle which males it impossible to get out like that, but I put it in the sink with some warm water to thaw a bit Yep it's pure organic, it smells nice but not strong, it reminds me of coco it cookies; coconuty but very oily smelling too. It makes my skin so soft and it absorbs so quickly, it's awesome. Df thinks I'm crazy for essentially lathering myself in cooking oil, but it works.

I use it as a cleanser, moisturiser and deodorant. It's one of the best gentle products for removing mascara. It's great as an all over body moisturiser. I've used it as a deodorant, but it's not an anti-perspirant and sometimes it doesn't last through the day, so I have a back up as well.

It's antibacterial and antifungal, so should be great for multiple uses. I often mix it with lavendar oil and massage it in to help me sleep.

Oh coconut oil brings back so many childhood memories!
My mums Indian and I remember her always using it on her hair when I was little, mine too. We'd keep it in for about 30mins before washing, I used to hate the oily feeling and the smell made me gag (can't stand coconut smell, yes I am weird ) I don't use the stuff anymore but it must of paid off as people always comment on how shiny and silky my hair is. Mum also used it on her hands and feet before bed, like moisturiser.

I think you can use it for cooking as well....

ooohhhh I might use it to take off mascara as I dont' like the eye make up remover thing, I always imagine it will give me wrinkles!

I've started using it as a deodorant too! Haha it's a miracle oil
