I have a few questions about make up.
When I was 16/17 I used to know everything about putting make up on, and I looked quite good too! The make-up I had was great! My skin was as good as any normal teenagers' skin.
But now after having a baby, I just, well i've lost it all!
I can't put make up on for the life of me, and it's so frustrating (but I think it's more that the make up just doesn't work for me any more)! My skin isn't as good, it's worse! And well, I don't have enough time to!!
I'm tempted to try mineral make up; it sounds really good, but is it really AS good as they make out on the infomercials?? I don't think I'd use sheer cover or thin lizzy, but I'm just using their ads as an example.
Is there anywhere that I can go to be taught to put make up on?? If so, is it like one class, or is it one class a week, or what's the set up there?? What do they teach you? Everything you need to know, or just the basics?
I'm just so over trying to make myself feel good, but the make up does nothing for me any more so I feel worse!! I've tried the same brand I used to use, and I've tried a number others. I've spent SO much on make up and I could probably open up a make up shop myself!
There are make up classes you could go to. Or, depending on where you live, pop into the costmetics section at David Jones or Myer (or somewhere like that) and ask the sales ladies to help teach you to put make up on. They'll give you a free demo too You'll be able to look around for good make up, and find the right type of make up for your skin.
I was going to say to go to a cosmetics counter (and make sure you are not obliged to buy if you don't want to) as well for a few tips. I don't think the mineral makeup is what it is made out to be in the ads- my opinion. I too hate trying some many things as you fork out lots of money trying. Now i just use the Natio tinted moisituriser, the Maybelline blush in the round glass pot, mascara and a nice lippy. The lippy is my splurge- Benefit or Chanel as I don't spend a lot on the others. I don't have the time/inclination/energy for other eye make up, highlighters, bronzers etc any more!!
I use loreal mineral make up and I really like it. there are some inexpensive brands at the shops now - I think maybelline has one out too. I can't help re the classes but I know there are you tube videos about how to put on mineral make up. HTHs
I'd go to a Napoleon store or counter at David Jones if you live near one? They are really good, just tell them you just want an 'everyday' look. i really like their products and the staff are usually really helpful. MAC counter are good for make up help too.

Do you have any friends that you know always look well made-up? Sometimes its nice to get advice from someone who isnt trying to sell you something
I live with my mineral powder as foundation daily - you can make it as light or heavy as you want just with practice and how much is on the brush. L'oreal used to be the only one with spf - though that may have changed now
I stick with cream eyeliner with a brush - Jane Iredale and for me its fool proof - its the only one that doesn't slide off on me.
I always wipe my mascara brush on a tissue first so I don't get heavy coats with globs.
I use lip gloss - L'oreal 6hr is actually pretty good. Or Mac lipstick which I also find lasts, and isn't drying or yuk tasting.
Oh and Mac Blotting powder over anything on face to stop shine and sets make up so it lasts better.
What else - lol...
As someone shocking with make up - I spend more on the brushes!! With the right brush its actually a lot harder to stuff things up.
Oh and a foundation primer is useful when you are skin conscious and using foundations. My skin has open pores and I find the result is much more even. But I only ever use it for functions etc... not every day, mainly because I'm lazy and just use mineral ones which are great for evening tones but not all over coverage like a foundation.

Another tip is to get yourself a really good concealer...
Lancome Photogenic is my favourite but there are plenty out there.
Concealers work really well with mineral makeup as you dab it on your problem areas first and then brush on your mineral makeup. You still get that "full coverage" look without clogging up your whole face with a heavy foundation.
The last time I was in the body shop the lady there gave me a mini makeover card so I could go back when I had more time. They give you a 10 minute make over with the mineral make up to show you what colours suit you. If you go past a body shop, just pop in and ask them, they are usually very helpful.
My skin is terrible after giving up breat feeding - it's like I'm a teenager again. I haven't found any makeup that gives excellent coverage, but the better my skin the better makeup looks. I have just started using an organic cleanser, toner & scrub that is lovely - Jewell. It is definately improving things, and is evening out my skin tone. Got it at Shimi online boutique. It might help.
I bought some natio mineral foundation. It was only about $15 from what i can remember. Ive only used it once & it was pretty good. Doesnt feel all heavy on ur face iykwim. Ive never been a big make up person. But as i get older, i think i should at least know how to apply it & what colour work for me. I might go check out my local body shop next time im in town!
Depending on where you are in Australia, Aveda in melbourne (not sure if they are interstate) do a fantastic make up lesson.
It is a one on one lesson and goes for about an hour. They do have pretty expensive products but they are really lovely quality ones. The best thing is that it does give you a chance to try their products and.... you can use the cost of the lesson on products. Last time I looked it was $150 and that means you walk away with $150 of Aveda make up and a personalised make up lesson.
I found it really worthwhile and good for the self-esteem too!!
Mary Kay has really nice makeup, most of the products I use are theirs..includign the skin care routine which actually is more important than the makeup itself!
Why not get some girlfriends together and have a Mary Kay makeover party. they'll come, show you how to prepare your skin and apply, and then u get discounts for whatever your friends buy! Nutrimetics is another really good one like that too

I eventually went with Sheer Cover, I got their trial pack, and I LOVE it!!
I even got all their skin products too and they go hand in hand with the mineral make up.

Just a little tip I'd personally stay away from the counters unless its Mac or Napoleon, some of the other counters have HIDEOUS make up artists. Mecca has some great Make Up artists and they love plying you with makeup and showing you new tips. Benefit is also another brand that tends to have good Make up artists. For some reason YSL, Dior and Estee Lauder have always given me the worst make overs EVER.
