Perfumes for old nana's?

Hi All

Am after some suggestions of a perfume to buy for my husbands grandfathers new wife for mothers day? She is in her 70s and doesnt really want for anything so I thought a perfume would be an easy option.

But I have no idea what are good perfumes for older women? Any suggestions?

Could you maybe as her husband if she has a fave?
Perfume can be hard to pick for someone else unless you have a rough idea if they like sweet smells etc.

Not sure...5 or 19... Her house has always smelled of it. I can't wear it at all because it is her smell itms.

The first thing that popped into my head was "anything overpowering with 'floral tones'
IMO purfume is a really hard thing to buy for someone else, I'd go with some Roses Only roses and chocolate.

Ooh good luck with that!! Even my best friend couldn't pick my tastes - she bought me something that I had such an aversion to I had to quietly pass it on to someone else!

Can you maybe go down the path of some body shop stuff - they have some beautiful new fragrances (well I say new but they could have been around for awhile - I hadn't been in there for a while until recently..) in their hand cream, body mist etc section. I find that a bit easier to choose than perfume.

But if you are really keen on perfume I would go something not too strong, and probably light fruity or light florally.

My Mum always said if you don't know what to get someone buy them posh soap.
SIL's Mum came to stay for Christmas last year and got so much soap that she must have worried about BO lol.

A nice porcelain cup is a good old lady present.

The Old girl, formally known as mum used to like Tweed and Chanel No. 5. But in saying that she would often steal what I was wearing at the time D&G Light Blue or the first Kylie one. I inherited her Red Door (given as a gift) as she didnt like it

my XMIL is in her 70's & wears nothing but Youth Dew by Estee Lauder. As much as I dislike my XMIL it is a lovely scent for an older woman.

BTW I have Red Door lol I even wore it on my wedding day.... I hope I dont smell like a granny hahahaha (although havent worn it in years!!)

Here are some things my Mum likes and she will be 80 in a couple weeks.

Lemon scented soap - after being in the garden found it refreshing
Plants
Cup & saucer
Being taken out for afternoon/morning tea, lunch or shopping
Books
I only buy her perfume when she tells me which one she would like - last was Red Door
Pretty underwear - how often do they or even us but it

Thanks for all your suggestions. It is so hard to buy something for someone that you dont know that well (they have been married less then a year and she was living overseas prior to the marriage) and truthfully her husband is no help at all.

I like the idea of either Youth Dew or Anais Anais or perhaps some plants. Essentially she "inherited" all the late grandmothers things when she moved in and as they were very wealthy they didnt want for anything. A nice cup and saucer maybe a good idea too, something that is "hers" and wasnt the late grandmothers.

For christmas I got her a lovely little bud rose vase- Royal Doulton Old English Roses and she seemed to love that.

LOL Everytime i smell it somewhere I automatically smile, i live 4hrs away from my nanny we are very close, she brought me up, I love red door

Joy, Chanel No. 5 and Diorissimo are lovely florals my grandmothers have worn. If she likes roses, Stella by Stella McCartney is beautiful - it's a traditional but also modern rose scent.

Am sure she'll love whatever you give her
