    I'd be looking for something else. If there is any chance that you are going to be checking yourself in every reflecting surface, or making sure you turn "the right way" for any photos then it is possibly going to spoil your evening, when what you should be doing is feeling absolutely fabulous and having a great time.

    FWIW, I would prefer my DH to tell me if he really didn't like something I was wearing. I definitely do dress for myself - mainly because he rarely notices - but I think its human nature that we want to look good in our mate's eyes too.

    Thanks everyone! I took the dress back and got a refund (from a shop that doesn't do refunds) - then I found another dress that DP actually does like
