Recently DH decided he was sick of doing all the cooking of tea (I am always BF DD to sleep when its dinner time) so we decided to buy a slow cooker. I got myself a 6lt Kambrook one with a Stainless Steel outer.
I don't know much about slow cookers really and probably sound dumb asking this but are all recipes for casserole type foods?
I really just want to be able to throw different veggies and meat into this thing turn it on and have a healthy meal at the end of the day.
We're trying out a lamb shanks recipe tonight but we have to cook veggies or rice separately and this annoys me as I really wanted to do a one pot wonder ITMS.
Any advice/tips/ideas welcomed
oh BTW I did see a recipe for bread, has anyone made bread int heir slow cooker?
Slow cookers are great!!!! Love mine. I do roasts in mine but admittedly not veggies, but you could always pre-preapre them before hand and then put them in the oven later. If you are on facebook there are a couple of groups on there with great recipes, and by no means are all of them casseroles. You can even do lasagne in them.
hi! i recently bought a slow cooker too and my 1st casserole is in there as we speak.. hope it turns out ok, didnt look like much liquid in there to me...
came home and it was made and DELICIOUS! kids loved it... so tender chicken, vegies perfect... i had a nibble and love it, cant wait for DH to fimnish putting DS1 down so we can EAT!
a SC convert here!!!
I make all sorts of stuff in mine. Lasagna is AWESOME! I've lost weight using my slow cooker too because you don't use so much oil and butter. Chilli con carne is great too. I just google slow cooker recipes although there are some awesome easy recipe books out there too. You can make desserts too but I'm trying to stay away from that so I'm not tempted to eat them! LOL. YUM!
I often just throw everything in and cook it, for example, I threw in some frozen cheap beef steaks I had yesterday, with some garlic, chopped carrots, onions, zucchini, potatoes, frozen beans peas and corn. Added some beef stock (about 2-ish cups), tomato paste, mixed herbs and a bit of worstershire sauce. It was yummo! All done at the end of the day, meat unfrozen (lol!!) and everything cooked to perfection. That was a really lazy day option for me though.
With any other recipes I use I often add extra veggies. I usually grate in carrots, zucchini, sometimes even pumpkin! And add soem frozen peas or corn. You can add anything you like to the recipes. I never cook the meat before hand as it usually tells you to in the recipes, I just chuck it all in and hey presto!! it's all delish in a few hours!
Thanks Muminalice I will have a looksee at the FB section
I have so far cooked a lambshanks recipe but didn't trim the fat and found it to be incredibly rich but OMG so yummy, I also did a meatloaf recipe, it was tasty but I was so disappointent the loaf fell apart and became a kind of spaghetti bol type thing
