Crumb coat - dairy free?

Hi ladies,

I need to make a cake this weekend that I'm covering in fondant but I'm not sure what to crumb it with - needs to be dairy free.

Any ideas?

I thought maybe just traditional old lemon icing - icing sugar, water, lemon juice? Would that work?

You don't need to use anything. You could just go with jam. That's the traditional way.
