It was nicer than I thought it would be! I have some time to kill today so I thought I would make my own (with dates in them as well!). They are in the oven at the moment but they look pretty good so far!
Will let you know how I go, and, if they work, I will post the recipe if anyone's interested.
Yum.
I tried a sample at bakers delight and then I ran away so I couldn't buy any. They did taste kind of strudely which was weird. I thought they would just taste like an apple scone.
•3 ½ cups SR flour
•½ cup white sugar
•½ teaspoon salt
•3 tablespoon ground cinnamon (or to taste)
•1 cup thick-cut rolled oats
•1 1/2 - 2 apples, peeled and diced
• 250 gm butter
•approximately 1 cup buttermilk (or milk with a squeeze of lemon in it)
•Dates to taste (I used about 200 grams)
•I guess you could also put some walnuts in (I didnt though)
1.Stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, dates, oats and apples.
2.Add cubed butter. Blend until resembles breadcrumbs (I use a blender because I am lazy)
3.Slowly add the buttermilk, blend until it forms a ball of dough
4.Turn the dough out onto a very lightly-floured cutting board. Pat it out into a circle, I added some extra diced apple at this stage and then knead lightly.
5. Use a glass or scone cutter to cut out scones
6. Brush top and sides with egg wash, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
7.Bake at 200 degrees for 14-20 minutes or until golden
8. Scoff
I told the boys we could bake this weekend because it is a long weekend.
They want to make gingerbread but I might try for the scones instead. If I can talk them into it I'll let you know how we go.
Yeah, I was already thinking of adding more apple and less dates, I like them but I like apple more. I guess I could even use sultanna instead and DD1 will love them.
