Just thought I'd put the feelers out to what others have bought either their kids or their nieces for their 10th birthday. We're just not sure what to buy Viv. She wants a Nintendo DS which is fine, but we bought her a PS2 two years ago and it really doesn't get that much use so we wonder if the DS will be the same. She barely even looks at the Tamagotchi V4 she got a couple of months back.
Is she into jewellery/beads or anything? I know Erin is only 5 but I am taking her to a bead shop for a lesson. They do them for all sorts of levels and abilities. She might get a kick out of making some of her own jewellery and it is a great chance for some mother/daughter time too.
Mp3 Player maybe? Mine are right into theirs. Em turns 11 this week which I know is a year older but we are mainly getting her things for her room. She aquired our queen bed just now because we got a new one, so we have bought her a new doona, cover etc. Ive bought her a bedside table, pretty lamp, alarm clock, couple of trinkets, books, new outfit and a mobile phone which i am dead against but she has begged and pleaded and Jess got one at the same age...arrgh. Hope Viv has a great birthday.
A little stereo of her own or an MP3 player? 9 yo DD will be getting some Lego (daggy but she is still into it and it's something she and her dad do together), a tabla (small middle eastern drum) and a stereo, as she has a walkman but would like to play music and dance around in her room. (Can you tell i have an all singing all dancing drama queen daughter LOL)??!
Hmm, she is crafty - as in creative! - but we do all those sorts of things already. You should see our craft room, there's just about everythign imaginable in there!
She got a portable cd/radio/tape player for her 8th birthday so she doesnt' need a new one yet. It gets a good workout at home and travels to my mums place when we got there so the girls have music there to listen/sing/dance to. Not sure about MP3 player - I dont think she's into music that much that she needs/I want her to have headphones yet so will wait until she is older.
Viv got the double bed from the guest room - now Blake's bedroom - a couple of years back and got all new linen for it then which is still in great condition so doesn't really need stuff for that. Her room was painted and redecorated about 4yrs ago but we did it quite old for her age at the time so still suits her. Doesn't really need stuff for it.
A voucher so she could shop is good, but I kinda want to get her a special present from us seeing she's turning 10 which is a big deal. Will keep it up my sleeve though!
I've already bought her a pair of boots which she's got early, a skirt and a Deltora Quest book of the whole first series - which she's soooo into. I guess I'm after a 'stand-out' present from Mum & Dad IYKWIM.
Oooh Nic is on to something there. A lot of the girls in my class at school all got signet/birthstone rings for their 10th birthdays. I was so jealous of them LOL. Or is that custom outdated now?
I don't think so Sherie? My niece has one, she is 7!! One of my DD's friends from class last year had one - 6 years old and her sister who was about 3!! A bit young if you ask me.
I think I got one for my 10th or 11th birthday? Everyone else got one before me too Sherie LOL!
I've never come across signet rings. They were not a big thing where/when I grew up so I might not go down that path. Though a nice pair of birth stone earrings would be nice, but I think her birth stone is pearl and I've got a pair of pearl my dad gave me when I was in my teens which I thought I'd pass onto Viv when she was older.
Does she like the theatre? Is there any singers/bands she'd like to see in the next 12 months? Paris has a DS lite and she really does love it, its a lot more easier than a console because its with them at all times iykwim? We have PS2, PSP, Wii & Paris still prefers the DS. Otherwise if you have a PS2 do you have singstar? Maybe that and a few of the other versions?
