What sort of budget do you have Jo?

The biggest hurdle we have is lack of funds (the drought is hitting us hard) the trouble is most of the 14yr olds i know all want the expensive stuff!
I have a friend who for her sons 12th birthday who gave him the choice of a big present or party because $$$ was low and he chose the party and got presents from his friends..maybe an option?

A blow up tube to float down the Murray!![]()
Jo,
it's the same for my DS2 - party or present, never both. The last few years he's asked for presents, but before then it was always party
I agree it can be expensive to buy for 14yo. They're not impressed by much. Maybe movie tickets for him and three friends?

Woops, I meant to say thanks too!!
My 13yo nephew loves anything to do with basketball. This year he loved his new basketball and sports clothes (T-shirt and short) more than the computer game console he was given LOL!! At Christmas the DVD of a basketball movie - Coach Carter or something? was his favorite pressie. So I don't think it needs to be expensive, just in keeping with his hobbies or passions.
My eldest DS just turned 14 this year and he got some money. I gave him the choice of $50 or a pressie. He chose the money cos he's buying things for his bike but needs to save for them. Oh and he got to go ten pin bowling as well. He got a jigsaw from PIL which surprisingly enough he was actually excited about.
At Christmas we'd just moved into our new house and money was EXTREMELY tight so we just bought him a Simpsons DVD cos he's obsessed..lol...but he was more than ok with it. I think that when they're this age they really can understand that there's not a lot of funds available but that you don't want them to miss out.
any type of gift voucher!!!![]()
