I was wondering if anyone has a problem like this with a child. My 5yo DS pulls at his hair whilst he sucks his thumb. He now has a bald patch. He has been doing this on and off for a couple of years. We have tried many things ie rewards, reminding him to stop etc and doctors just suggest clipping his hair short until it passes. He has stopped at times but it starts again. He is a happy child, loves school etc. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I did this as a child (mostly during my sleep) and I think I drove my parents insane trying to cure me. I had a serious accident as a child and started this habit in hospital to comfort myself I guess. Eventually, after trying everything under the sun, my parents eventually cur my hair short so that I couldn't grab the strands and I just lost interest so it worked.
I'll ask my Mum when I talk to her next about other things I can suggest.

thank you for your reply. I will probably have to shave his hair short again although I hate it. I'd appreciate anything you find out from your Mum.
