    Fussy Eater

I am having so much trouble with my almost 9 year old. She is fussy normally, but since having a tummy bug she won't eat much at all. Before the bug she ate a diet of lamb chops (which she now won't eat), pasta with cheese on it (will NOT touch mince) BBQ chicken occassionally, roast meat sometimes. Brocolli tops (not the stalk ) and sometimes baked potato, NO other vegetable. All fruit pretty much (minus rockmelon, honey dew) and eats wholemeal and wholegrain bread with either cheese or honey and peanut butter. She has popcorn plain for snacks, along with different plain crackers. Also eats raw tuna and salmon sushi. Breaky is toast or cereal and she also has yoghurt.
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to do. I've tried all the tricks, but nothing seems to work. I can't even bribe her, she just won't try things and will literally sit at the table for hours and go to bed hungry, it doesn't worry her.
Im sure she prob gets a reasonably balanced diet, but with no meat now Im starting to worry. Any advice appreciated. xoxoox

Meg, if she has had a pretty bad tummy bug, it could take her a while to even get her appetite back, let alone being able to stomach certain foods again. I know when I was a child, when I got sick, I couldn't stand to eat any of the foods i'd eaten in the day or so previously to getting sick for a long time after the illness had gone. Maybe Tilly is like this? or you could ask her what she really feels like eating at the moment and be content with that for a while and hope that she starts eating her usual diet again soon. I wouldn't worry about being without meat for a little while, I'm sure she has plenty of iron stores etc built up to combat that.

I wouldn't worry too much, she has a pretty good variation there. More than my son had! He's only just started to venture out a bit more in the food department. So long as she's growing and is healthy she is getting what she needs. The body craves what it needs so if she needs something she'll probably eat it.

Thanks guys! She's living on honey on toast (at least it's wholegrain) and yoghurt, so that is ok for now. I will not stress anymore and just ask what she feels like and let her eat that.

    Hi Meg,

She sounds like she is eating enough dairy to compenstate for any missed protein while she won't eat meat, and is probably getting enough iron and everything else too, but if you are concerned maybe you could get an iron fortified milk? Her diet does saound pretty varied
