I've been really horrified with dd1 lately. She is eighteen, at university. She moved out of home briefly but moved back again when it didn't work out the way she thought it would. (Heh, sometimes you don't need to say "I told you so"!)
She had been working, but left her job as the boyfriend who had made the flat situation not work out was also making the work situation not work out. (I am sure I asked "do you think working and living with your boyfriend is a good idea? Hmmm.)
Her social life has not suffered one iota. Her friends treat her all the time. Friends with cars drive her everywhere. She gets boys to pay for her dinner. One girlfriend even paid for her to go away for a weekend spa! As far as I can tell, she's never reciprocated this kind of generosity. She has stopped expecting handouts from us, thankfully, but it really makes me ashamed, I guess, that my daughter is happy to bludge off other people.
