Hello, with only one daughter we have amassed a mountain of examples of her 'best work' - and it's creating a bit of a storage problem. For starters, she has a folder or two of "folio" work from school each year, plus some exercise books where she has written 'stories' & done pictures - much too cute to throw out! Then there's all the art work/posters and things she's made.
Any suggestions on how to sort/store/use these? I don't want to be like my mother who threw *everything* my sister and I did out (that's just insensitive!) but I don't want to hoard mountains of paper for years either...
We've another baby arriving soon so I'd better get it sorted out or it will be double the problem!
You could use some of her artwork as wrapping paper for presents. Maybe scan a lot of it and throw out the originals but keep just some of the originals. I know it's VERY hard to do but I had to do the same thing cos it does just get to the stage where you have nowhere left to put these things. Maybe even get your daughter to help you pick her absolute favourites to be kept and frame a couple to hang?? This way she knows you haven't done what your mother did and also you have the rest on a special disc or something off the computer.
If its flat stuff you can roll them up and put them in Poster Pack Rolls. Other stuff take photo's and then give it away to friends Its easier to keep scrapbooks of their artistic work than the work itself.
I have seen laminating machines reasonably cheap in Kmart, and I thought that could be a good idea to laminate, say A4 size, some of the best ones to keep.
I've seen people put their kids' favourite paintings under the glass of a glass-top table, or on a kids' table with contact or transparent plastic sheet taped over, and they are always good to look at.
We have a few paintings my kids have done directly onto canvas hung around the place and a couple in frames.
Those big plastic tubs with lids are good for keeping more bulky favourite items.
