Hi ladies-
Posting in here for a friend.
She recently had an ectopic pregnancy and a D & C, 1.5 weeks ago.
Then had unprotected sex, the following week.
What is the likelihood that she could be UTD?
Is it safe to fall pregnant so soon after a D & C?
It's been 4 days since they BD- so the BFP she's getting would have to be the HCG leaving her body from the ectopic?
She's having light dark brown bleeding- is it in the realm for implantation bleeding, or is it common to stop bleeding and start up again after a D & C?
At four days after conception the embryo is not yet a blastocyst. It doesnt start to implant until seven days past ovulation/conception. It is most likely bleeding from the D&C.
Its possible she could have fallen pregnant but I would also think much too early for a BFP. Depending on how far along she was when her D&C was performed on how long the HCG from that pregnancy would take to leave her body. I had a D&C at 9 weeks and it took about 2- 2.5 weeks after to be gone completely.
Im not sure about how common it is to stop bleeding then start again but day 4 after conception would still be a morula/ mass of cells, day 5 a blastocyst and implantation wouldnt occur for another day at the very earliest. Then of course you are looking at a few days to get enough HCG in your system to show up on a POAS test.
Theres every possibility its left over HCG. Maybe the D&C wasnt complete but time will tell that one.
Based on the timings you have described, I'd have to agree with the other ladies. I think it's too early for a BFP and, personally, I'd be very surprised if she has even O'd yet (I'm not saying it's not possible, just that I'd be very surprised).
I bled for 18 days after my d&c and during that time it tapered off twice, only to start up again. I was still getting +HPT until 2 weeks after the d&c and I know women who have had hcg remain in their system far, far longer than that (months after her d&c for one friend, but that is unusual).
I'm actually surprised they BD'd that early. They usually recommend not inserting anything up there for at least 2 weeks because of the risk of infection.
As for when it's safe to TTC again, most Drs will tell you to wait until your first AF before starting TTC again. Most of them say it just because they want a LMP to date any new pg, so we decided not to wait. However, for some women, there are medical reasons for waiting (usually 1-3 months) which should not be ignored. It would probably be best if she spoke to her Dr to ask if there's any need to wait and, if so, why.
I was bleeding for 9 days after a investigative laparoscopy which included D&C... and I was sore for at least 5 or 6.... they told me not to have sex for 2 weeks....
Cheeky friend you have
I agree with the others though.... probably not a true BFP just yet...
