After my curette for my 2nd m/c thing 10 days ago I ended up in lots of pain and cramping on Thursday, my FS sent me for a blood test which showed that despite the curette my hcg had not gone back to 0 was still at 60.
My choices were another curette or 2 injections of this methotrexate which he said is a chemotherapy drug used in large doses to attack yucky cells but for me it was a small dose designed to break down the hcg tissue.
Has anyone else had this injection and have any side effects or even better did they have success later on??
I am a tad confused (although too late now as it is in my body) but would love to hear from anyone with a similar experience.
Thanks, Bronze

Hi! I take methotrexate for a different reason but should be able to help answer some of your questions. It is a very serious medication to take but at the same time if managed well it is fine. Don't get hung up on it being a chemotherapy drug - it is, but it is a multipurpose drug - it is used to treat many conditions like heart problems, breast cancer, arthritis and other conditions where you need to suppress the immune system because it is an immuno-suppressant drug. You will need to take some folate (5mg) as the MTX will leech it out of your body, This is vital if you plan on trying to another baby soon. You should also make sure you drink up to 2lts of water a day to help your kidneys filter it. If you were going to have side effects, then you would be experiencing them by now. Things like nausea or extreme tiredness are common. The most important thing though is that you will need to wait 3 months before you can TTC again becuase MTX WILL cause birth defects or cause you to abort the baby so it is advised that you wait 3 months to ensure that there should be no problems. You should probably have a blood test to make sure that your liver and kidney function is normal as well.
