I've heard all sorts of conflicting advice, but would like some opinions. I had a D&C yesterday after a 11week missed miscarriage/blighted ovum and would like to get back on the TTC horse as quick as possible. Asuuming AF returns, is it ok to TTC next cycle? Or should be wait 2 or 3 cycles? My bleeding has already slowed right down. WDYT? And what are the reasons behind waiting?
I started TTC straight after all bar my first 2 losses, first was ectopic treated with methotextrate 2nd was our daughter we waited for genetic testing results
with my m/c at 10 weeks I conceived Jack 2nd cycle after the d/c depends on why you m/c etc...
I can't recall the exact science behind waiting for a few cycles... when i had my blighted ovum i think they said something about maximizing the chances of successful implantation and also it's better if you wait for your hormones to settle down. A D&C is fairly invasive... maybe they prefer the enviroment to settle down, to confirm that there is no lingering placental material and to make sure the cervix has sealed up properly and is sterile? that's just me theorising though.
I also had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks with a D&C. I was told 4 months to try again. I waited this long, only because of life circumstances at the time. Otherwise I think I would have been back TTCing as soon as AF arrived.
I thinkt he reason I was given for 4 months was for the lining to regrow adequately after D&C. But I was pretty traumatised byt it all, I wasn't really taking much in, to be honest.
Everyone here will have diffrent experiences, I would say go with what feels right to you. If you feel healthy and ready to try again, go for it!
My friend had a D&C at the end of last year and was told to wait 6 weeks to TTC again due to the risk of infection.
I haven't had a D&C, but I had an ectopic pregnancy that ended naturally and I conceived DS2 after the first cycle post m/c. I had an early m/c (again without a D&C) before DD was concieved and it we waited one cycle to TTC again.
There is no evidence to support a delay in TTC. Some of the reasons for a delay are related to dating and the recommencement of regular cycles, others suggest the lining but there is nothing I am aware of to support either. You start TTC when you are physically, emotionally and psychologically ready
After my missed mc found at 12.5 weeks (and d and c), AF took about 6-8 weeks to come then we tried that first cycle and conceived my now cheeky 2.5 year old. So I would say start trying whenever you feel strong enough emotionally and physically. Don't get too worried about the number of cycles (besides what might be right for one person, might not be right for another).
Sorry for your loss. I miscarried naturally after an 11wk missed miscarriage also. Due to other health issues I had a d&c about 2 months later (so did have an AF inbetween) to remove a polyp. the gyn who is also a top FS said that once AF returns we can start ttc straight away. there is no physical reason why you cannot. The uterine lining sheds every month anyway so once you have your AF it will start rebuilding just as it does every month. Once i got af (which was 2 weeks after my d&c) we ttc and fell pregnant straight away. I am now almost 17wks and all is going well. Every situation is different though so still best to check with your gyn to see what they advise. I just liked the explanation from my gyn as it just made sense. Go with what is best for you emotionally first then physically (depending what your gyn advises)
Roryrory, so sorry for the loss of your precious angel For my first pg, I miscarried at 8 weeks and had a D&C, and started TTC again straight away. Unfortunately, I was one of the few unlucky ones and got a pretty bad infection, which developed into PID. It went untereat for months and did leave a bit of scarring I have miscarried twice since then and have been advised that I can TTC as soon as I want, but that it's a good idea to wait one or two cycles to let the lining etc thicken up. Ultimately the choice is up to you, when you feel comfortable with TTC again, you should.
Lots of love and hugs xx
I had a miscarriage prior to DD1 on March 17 2003 (amazing how the date still sticks in my memory). I then had a D & C immediately, I was approx 9 weeks. I then went onto conceive DD1 immediately afterwards prior to even getting AF back, DH's birthday is 1 April and I know we Dtd for that as I had stopped bleeding. I then went on to have a trouble free pregnancy.
Last year I lost a baby at 15 weeks and waited approx 2 months before TTC but that wasnt necessarily due to any physical/bodily factors it was purely because emotionally DH and I werent ready.
I think it comes down to an individual choice - when you are ready.
