    OPKs after a D&C....?

    Hi ladies,
I had a D & C two weeks ago and we've been told we can't resume IVF now until Jan. But we have decided to try naturally during the two cycles before then.
Since the curette I have been bleeding (seemed like a long time but anyway), until yesterday/today (now just very light brownish spotting...virtually nothin...sorry if TMI!) so I decided to start doing my OPKs this morning (these worked when I conceived naturally with the ectopic)... anyway, I normally ovulate about Day 15...
today, I got a positive line on the OPK test...I wasn't expecting that, because I haven't been having any CM just the very light discharge....is it possible I could already be ovulating anyway? Or is there a chance I still have pregnancy hormones left which are giving a false positive on the test?
I think DH and I might BD just in case! my chances of conceiving without IVF are very slim, but of course, we pray for a miracle...

    Hi Possums

From my understanding, a positive OPK before your first AF after a MC can be one of three things:

    1. If you normally have a 28 day cycle it is possible you are ovulating 2 weeks after a D&C. Women can conceive straight after a D&C (though some Dr's advise against this)

    2. On the other hand, I have read the HCG that is still in your body can somehow affect O tests.

    3. It takes your hormones a little while to settle down and can give a false reading.

    Hope its a help

Hi Possums I ovulated 2 weeks after my D&C and infact I was still bleeding from the D&C when I ovulated - I found out because I was having blood tests to monitor everything after a late loss/infection and 2 D&C's due to retained placenta products... so it is possible to ovulate that soon after one. From what my OB said, once you have a successful D&C, your hormone levels hit zero so you shouldn't have preg hormones now. Good luck!

    Hey Em

After my D&C as soon as my hcg levels went to 0 I ovulated.... I don't know if this is the norm but that is how it worked for me... Wishing you luck!
