Here is an interesting article published yesterday in the NYT about thyroid and infertilty/miscarriages... as you may know I suffered 5 years of late first trimester miscarriages before I was finally diagnosed with Hashimotos...maybe this will help someone. I am now aged 44 and finally expecting a naturally conceived baby due in June 2009.

Congratulations AustraJoey - what an achievement! I too have fallen pregnant after TTC for one year and then having had 3 miscarriages in 18mths. I am nearly 33 wks now and have had a problem-free pregnancy in all regards. I had many, many tests (DH also had quite a few) and no-one could find any reason to explain my 3 early miscarriages.
But the one positive that has come about from this long and difficult road is that now DH and I truly think we are some of the luckiest people around! Our desire to have this baby and our love for her started years before she was even born which not many people can truly say or feel and it's a special feeling that not many get to experience.

Congratulations to you too! You are about 1 month ahead of me.
After 5 years of miscarriages (all around 9-10 weeks which is even more heartbreaking, especially after I'd seen a heartbeat) I appreciate every ache and pain of this pg and revel in my baby bump!

as for me...about a month ago I had a heap of blood tests (they took 18 vials of blood) for recurrent miscarriage...and the results are back in. I don't know what they are yet, but they say that they are not "normal" and I am seeing the specialist in Friday. Am a bit nervous, but also hopeful maybe there is a problem which has a relatively simple fix, so next time my baby stays where it's meant to until it's time to come out!

Congrats Megsy and AustraJoey, I am so glad to hear that you are expecting little miracles after all that you have been through.
My DH and I feel the same way now that we have our beautiful little DD - we never cease feeling amazed by her very existence and we remember too well the times when we thought we would never be parents.
Possums - I have been following you (stalker alert!) and was so very sorry to hear about Hope. I am glad to hear the testing process has begun (I had 18 vials taken for the tests too - you feel pretty drained after that hey!). In my case they found nothing wrong and called it bad luck and said to try again. I know you must be nervous, but maybe the tests will have revealed something that can be treated and soon you will be on your way to a little miracle of your very own? Keep us updated, I will be thinking of you on Friday.

Well, I have been diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome...the treatment is daily clexane injections in pregnancy (to thin the blood)..so here's hoping this is the answer we need and can hold onto our next baby.
We have just started another IVF cycle :pray:

Hi Possums - I don't think I have posted here in ages, but I get updates when someone does. I wanted to let you know that I have been on clexane and low does aspirin since 5.5 weeks and am now in my 28th week of pregnancy after 5 miscarriages in 2 years. So there is hope and the shots are not really that bad once you figure out the right technique.:
I have low levels of lupus antibodies, and was also found to have Prothrombin Gene Mutation.

Austra Joey~ just wondering if they ever found a cause for your recurrent M/c.... I have just experienced my second loss this one at 10 weeks 6 days found at my 12 week u/s...like you I had seen the heart beat earlier and was just devastated. Both my loses have occured at around 10 weeks...both missed miscarriages.
So just wondering as I noted your m/c were also at around this time...
Hi Frog, so sorry to hear about your losses. Yes, I was finally diagnosed with Hashimotos, that's an autoimmune thyroid condition- I am medicated with thyroxine and as soon as the dose was correct, I was pregnant again and at age 44!
Ask your Dr about testing your thyroid function and see a Reproductive Endocrinologist if you can.

another test my gynae did before referring to fs a while back was karyotype testing on both myself and DF in case there was a chromosone clash between the two of us.both came back with no problems

I have been feeling really disheartened and worried of late, as I have had 11 miscarriages in 6 years. I feel like I have had every scan or test possible and apparantly nothing was wrong. I have always been regular in my cycles until about a year ago when they became very very abnormal.
I have never really had a relationship with my mum but knew she had a hystorectomy around 29 which seeing as my 27th birthday is soon to come around I have been very anxious. I have reconcilled with her recently and just found out she had a condition called Adenomyosis. Seeing as both my grandma and my sister have endometriosis it is all starting to make sense. I have another special appointment with OBGYN on tues 30th so will finally tell him this discovery. After doind a little research I have realised this condition can cause mulitple miscarriages around 7-10 weeks which is when all mine have occurred.
Has anyone else been told they have this condition?

after 3 healthy births, i have exprienced 4 miscarriages in 12 months. i've only just gone to my GP for a referal (slow, I know, but no one ever suggested i try to find out if there was something wrong). she has been great and i am waiting on blood tests now. i am also waiting for an appointment in 10 weeks with a gyno/ob she referred me to.
i am wondering if anyone can make any recommendations for ob/gyno's or fertility specialists in the melbourne area? i live in the west of melbourne but any distance is fine for the right treatment! i am hoping that the 10 week wait is worth it but thought i'd start asking in case?
