2004/2005 Endio Laproscopic Surgery to remove scar tissue
Jan 2008 3 Weeks Ectopic - Right Tube - Methotrexate
Feb 2009 6 Weeks Ectopic - Right Tube - Tube Saved Ectopic Removed
June 2010 6 Weeks Ectopic - Left Tube - Methotrexate, followed by the removal of Left Tube???

I have now been referred to a Fertility Clinic for IVF, my concern is having another ectopic pregnancy under IVF??? Are the odds the same as conceiving naturally???

I have had an ectopic pregnancy and another pregnancy of unknown location probably tubal but it was never diagnosed where it was. We are commencing IVF soon and it won't prevent ectopic pregnancy occuring but the chance is probably less then conceiving naturally. For one past EP the chance is around 5-10% I think of it occuring again then for every EP after then it goes up quite dramatically. I think about 4% of IVF pregnancies are ectopic and having tubal damage does increase that chance. Apparently this is because even with IVF the embie floats around and does often go up the tube and a normal tube will sweep it back into the uterus but an unhealthy one doesn't always do this hence why even with IVF it can still lodge in the tube. There is also some suggestion of placing the embie to high into the uterus or with too much pressure which can push it into the tube on transfer. I guess sometimes its impossible to know exactly how it occurs with IVF.

I think the most important thing regardless of how you conceive is to have regular BTs as soon as you know your pregnant to see what the BHCG levels are doing. Anything less then doubling within a 48hr period is highly suggestive of another EP or m/c of some sort and then you need to decide if you want methotrexate sooner rather then later. When the HCG levels are still low it has a higher chance of success without causing significant more damage.

Although I have one damaged tube left at this stage I do want to hold onto it although it has proven so far not to have assisted in achieving a pregnancy. We are using IVF to hopefully conceiving again but at this stage I still want to keep that tube so plan to test every 48hrs initially and have methotrexate early if its suggestive of EP. Its a horrid thing to take and then not been able to ttc again for so many months etc
