    Miscarriage and Aspirin???

Hello - I've had two miscarriages now within 6 months - one at 6 weeks and next one at 12 weeks though baby apparently had died at 9.5 weeks. We've been referred to a fertility clinic and had first appointment today. Amongst other things, the consultant advised me to take a quarter of an aspirin tablet each day (ie 75 mgs). Apparently there is some anecdotal evidence to suggest that this may help in cases such as mine, however having just done a quick trawl through the web, I can't find anything to support this. A lot of sites talk about the problems of taking aspirin during pregnancy, not potential benefits. Has anybody else been told to do this or know anything about it? Would appreciate any comments. Thanks, Adelaide.

    Hi,

    Sorry about your m/c

I am not in the same boat as you but I have been told by my gyne that if I get pg again he is going to start me up on a 1/4 Disprin per day. With my previous pg, I developed HELLP Syndrome at 33 weeks.
He told me that taking disprin is like a "prevention" method. That does not mean the I can not develop HELLP again, but it would decrease the risk. That is what I understood

I have not googled it, or done any research about it, because I am not planning on getting pg withing the next few months (well not on purpose, anyway) Would be interesting to know what the other ladies around here say ...

I found this (not sure if I may post this link ???? ), not sure what exactly your circumstances are, but this is more related to mine Do you suffer high-blood pressure??

    I'm sorry for your losses.

I'm not quite in the same boat, but I had post natal pre eclampsia and related ongoing kidney troubles. I've also been advised to do the same. My specialist did have some research...I'll see what I can dig out.

I had two m/c's and for my third pg, my ob suggested taking 1/4 asprin,I don't know if it's a coincidence or it is a result of taking the asprin, but we now have a beautiful baby girl. It is so simple and to think it may prevent m/c... Good luck I hope it works for you.

Thanks Ladies - I love this site always makes you feel like you're not alone!

Nadine - I don't have high blood pressure so he wasnt prescribing it for that. The comment from obs/gynae was just - take aspirin, it won't hurt and may help. Looks like it helped Kellieem so maybe can do the same for me! Fingers crossed. Have had loads of blood tests now to see if everything else okay so we'll just see what happens next time. Thanks again, Adelaide

The theory behind apirin is that, because it is a blood thinner, that it can prevent any clots in the placenta and improve the flow of cord blood thus preventing miscarriage and helping with blood pressure related issues such as pre eclampsia and HELLP. There has not been a heck of a lot of research in the pre natal area as yet, you will find most of the research is in other areas like general blood pressure studies etc where they know that x and y happen and therefore they say well if it worked there then maybe it will have the same effect here type thing.

I believe from what I have read of related research that it is a very promising idea and worth a shot IMHO
