What is going on?? Ovulation confused!

Hello all, I am after a bit of advice. I first must confess to being a bit of a lurker. I m/c in July of this year (@ 6wk), and I have to say a big thank you to all of you for all of the information that is on this site. It really helped me even though I wasn?t really up to sharing when it all happened.
Anyway, DH and I were not-not-trying if you know what I mean for about 9 mnths prior to getting pregnant (which I think is about average given the mitigating circumstances of DH damaging a disk in his back in Jan), but after this I have very much wanted to start ttc almost just to make sure everything is ok. Also suddenly aware that we are in our 30?s babies now would be great!

Anyway, since m/c in July I have started taking a more active interest in my cycle (have been tracking since I came off the pill anyway, so a few more details are all good), and it now has me completely confused!!

I have always had a pretty much clockwork like cycle, 28 or 30 (even numbers only???) and since the m/c I am now in my 3rd cycle. For the first two it seemed like it was all very clear. Doing the mucus tracking thing I pretty much worked out my first ovulation (as in, predicted when my next cycle was going to start) and then the next cycle I also invested in the POAS LH kit from Forelife and my mucus matched up with the nice dark line on the stick (also matched up with DH being away for work, sigh), so this month I thought it would be all sorted, however, neither mucus or POAS has given me any indication that I have ovulated at all this month. I POAS from D12 to D18 and nothing at all

So now I?m super confused. What is happening? When people say ?you don?t ovulate every month? is this cos there is no LH surge? Also I have no reason to think that my cycle won?t be 28 days long this month so I?m not even sure how that works.

Of course trying to remember back to what mucus was doing prior to m/c and not having much luck, definitely remember being aware of it for some cycles, but not all, and also no clear memory of it from the month that I got pregnant. Anyway, would love some advice if anyone has any ideas. I haven?t started temping yet cos I trying to stay calm and not think too much about this (as you can see with the length of this message, going well with that!?!?!).

So thanks for listening, any thoughts would be great,

    Indy

    Hi Indy,
don't worry about funny cycles here and there whilst ttc, the body is amazing in it's ability to decide to change things and we trust that it's for the best. Ovulation is often missed during illness as a protective mechanism so if you were sick or even stressing more than usual your body may choose not to ovulate. We see this often in clinic.
Its possible, if this cycle was anovulatory, for you to have either a normal length cycle or a missed period. It's also possible that you did ovulate as those tests are not as reliable as temping. The best advice is to not get wound up in it. I believe there is lots to be gained by charting and letting a specialist in the field do the interpretation. That way there's no worry or wonder b/c you're always supported!
    I hope this helps :-)

Hi Indy - welcome to Belly Belly. I am sorry for your loss...

Cycles can vary and it is not at all unusual to have the odd wierd one thrown in here and there. However, I know only too well just how frustrating that can be when TTC.
I have always found ovulation sticks a really good way of knowing when your LH surge is and thus the best time to TTC. I too encoutered similar to you along my journey. Sometimes I found I needed to test twice daily - sometimes I found that I surged later in my cycle and other times earlier.

Keep testing your LH surge may be yet to happen or alternatively you may not ovulate this cycle at all - again this is normal now and then in the picture of "healthy reproduction".

Wishing you well on your TTC journey...

    Thanks

    Hi guys,

thanks for the comments. I know I need to calm down a bit about all this, easier said than done sometimes. DH keeps telling me not to be a 'worry-bot' (anyone else play ratchett and clank?)

Am going to take a breath and roll with this a little more. Thanks for the advice,

    Indy
