Good morning lovely ladies,
Sorry have been MIA again!
Azzrenae - oh sweet.... how are you doing, what a frightning time for you. Have you made a def decision about the amnio? On one hand they have identified TTTS early and with close monitoring you will have the best chance of them picking up any further problems that they now can sometimes even fix. Knowledge is power but remeber to only taake the bits of info you need and remember Dr Google doen't always know best!! I'm thinking of you hun:pray: Take care of yourself and keep us updated.
Mon - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear more but you are probably a little busy ATM!!!
BBL my mum has just phoned!
xxBella
Sorry girls i'm back..
Hi Jen and Kezza how are going?
AFM - i had my first appointment at the multiple pregnancy clinic at the RWH on Friday - it went really well they were so nice. It was pretty much a history taking appointment but she also gave me lots of information. I will be seen and scaned every 3 weeks from now - so close monitoring for me! I feel like i'm in the best place particuly if something goes wrong. I then saw the nutritionist which was good. So waiting for my 12 week NT scan Tues morning i can't wait! I'm officially 12weeks and 3 days yay i made it!!! Feeling much better after a week off work i have taken mon and tues night shift sick leave which means i'm not back til sat so another week off for me - i feel like i really needed it.
I can't wait to find out what we are having so i can start buying!! We got a quote for our cots and prams etc etc which was great to get things started.
I have started de-cluttering our house over the past few weeks and have done so many trips to the salvo's!! I can't believe how much stuff we have he he!
Anyway laundry calls - hello to everyone hope everyone is looking after their precious gifts!
xxBella
Hi Bella, I have read and read alot of about amnio they pretty much say the same thing I have also looked at a couple of forums with twin mummies that went down and amnio track and some that didn't which was great to read. I had a big chat to DH and made him read the info OB gave us so that he understands why I am bit apprehensive about doing it and he understood. So we have decided to do it we made the appt on Wednesday at 1pm I will let you know how it goes in a couple of days.
How excititng your 12 weeks thats great bella its so exciting to see them again bouncing up and down that is when you realise that there is 2 little babies growing inside they are not just little blobs anymore hehehe let us know how you go.:dance: It get to hear you are resting a bit more you should have abit more energy now your in the second tri but still take it easy
Hi Kezza how you going?
Take care everyone
Hi Azz - best of luck for tom. Take care and i'll be praying hard!
Hello to all the other lovely ladies!
I went for my NT scan today - it was great to see them both so much more developed and moving about. The sonographer said all the measurements were "perfect" so asuming that means great news will have to wait for formal results in 24 hours.
Better go and organise dinner.
xxBella
Hey twin mums!
Azz all the best for tomorrow hunny, I'll be thinking of you babe. I have an Obst appnt at the hospital tomorrow too. I think they do a swab to test for some sort of bacteria at my stage 32-33 weeks and if it's detected they give antibiotics. Then another scan on friday, and a tens class, I would really like to give them a go, before going down the drug route if both are head down.
I've had some false alarms with Braxton Hicks, I really thought that friday morning about 1.30am I was going to be giving birth!!! But after 5 minutes the contractions stopped, but I've been getting a dull ache in my lower back, like a drawing feeling, so I don't think it's gonna be too much longer now.
Bella that is fantastic news babe:dance: I'm really pleased for you, I remember being so excited at that stage. Will you be finding out the sex's? Do you know if they are identical? Let the nesting begin!!! lol
By the way thanks to Smithy for posting up Mons announcement! :D
Hi ladies
OMG Kezza its so close braxton hicks can be uncomfortable but shouldn't be painful let me know how the tens class goes. Are you ready if they come now. hopefully everthing goes well with your test. I am so thinking about you.
Bella thats fantastic perfect little bubs.
Yesterday went well it was painless the only thing was me freaking out but I didn't feel a thing haven't had anypain or craming which are common complaints they said also the small twin is now the same age as my due date does that makes sence and the messurements are normal its just the big 1 its a week a head. Just resting at the moment DH has been great I wasn't allowed to leave the couch yesterday when I got home he gave DD her bath and cooked our tea. We should get our some of our results in 48 hrs which are the main ones and the rest in 2 to 3 weeks so I will keep you posted. Oh I have been feeling them kicking and moving around I forgot what it felt like
wow! last time I popped into the twins forum, things were moving pretty slowly. It's so busy in here now!!
Congratulations - lots of new twins on the way, I see. Don't let any of the scary stories get to you - twins are fabulous! Lots of hard work of course - but well worth it. I always say having twins makes me feel sorry for all the babies who AREN'T twins and don't have a little friend to play with all the time. My girls have just turned 1 and they play and chatter together all day which is so cute (of course, they also fight and bite each other when competing for my attention - not so cute!).
Just thought I would add my 2 cents on the feeding pillows - I really recommend trying out a pregnancy body pillow as your breastfeeding pillow before buying an expensive feeding pillow. I bought the inflatable ez2nurse and hated it - used it once and ended up giving it to a friend. I used my pregnancy body pillow and just wrapped it around me. Much cheaper than a feeding pillow and just as good!
Also, be careful with expressing all the time and following strict routines like contented house with twins whilst breastfeeding. You'll find those kind of strict routines are not really recommended by Australian breastfeeding association in the early days as they interfere with building up sufficient milk supply. Plus, if you're expressing a lot unnecessarily, you may be causing yourself breastfeeding problems with overactive milk letdown that babies can't handle or mastitis because you're producing too much milk.
I am still breastfeeding my girls and can honestly say I haven't used my breast pump ONCE since they were born. Some people who experience problems will find pumping is a good tool but for others it isn't necessary. So just be wary of those strict routines...
ooh - and even if you have TWO placentas, your babies could still be identical. about 20% of Di/di twins are actually identical (mine were - we have the DNA test to prove it!)
sorry to slam my advice here and run but one of my twins is waking up and needs a cuddle so I have to go.
Good luck to all of you. Being a mummy to twins is awesome!!
ETA: just thought would add a book recommendation - for breastfeeding - 'mothering multiples' is well worth a read.
Hey Hannah! Thanks so much for the info, although it's a bit late for me I've already bought the EZ to nurse pillow!! Oh well I'll see how I go, I can always sell it on ebay if I don't get on with it. I'm curious did you have to ask to have the DNA test or did they do it as a matter of routine.
I had another scan today all is well, one is head up and one is down. Their estimated weights are 4lb6oz and 4lb2oz at the moment, so they are growing nicely. I also had a Tens class, I was told that I can either hire a machine privately or have a free one from the hospital, but if twins decide to come early out of hours or on a weekend I won't get one from the hospital. For a singleton pregnancy they let you have a machine from 39 weeks to take home. I am hoping if I get that far along that they will let me have one from 37 weeks, I'm waiting for the lady to ring me back and let me know on that one. They sound like a brilliant thing to use if you are not keen on using drugs as pain relief, but if you can't get on with the Tens you can still have an alternative pain relief it's up to you. Provided I don't have to have a c sec then I will be pushing for a Tens machine for relief definitely. I didn't end up having the swab test thingy, the doc said we'll do it next visit in two weeks time. Oh and I nearly forgot the babies are both breathing in my tum, so they are unlikely to need help with breathing when they are born, which is fantastic news. All in all I'm very happy with the way things are going, it's just a waiting game now! Ooooh I am getting really excited!!
Hello all,
Hannah thanks for all the advice - keep it coming!!
Kezza - wow everything sounds like it's going great - not to long now! I am interested though i have been told if going to deliver vaginally that i will have to have a epidural for safety i.e if they need to do an emerg c-sec for the second one say i will be ready to go? Not that i mind he he!
Azz - any results yet - glad to hear it was painless - hope your resting xx
Hello to everyone else.
AFM - well i finally have made my first purchase - pack of 4 muslin wraps and the cutest pack of baby bibs!!! Waiting to find out the sex - i can't wait - next scan is 2 weeks away which will be 15 weeks so am praying they will be able to tell then. Feeling good - have to go back to work tom night shift after 2 weeks off - god i wish i could start leave now!! Only 39 more shifts to go to get me to 24 weeks which is when i plan to stop :D.
Take care lovely ladies.
xxBella
Bella I am guessing it would be because you haven't given birth before, I have already had an 8lb baby vaginally so I guess it makes it easier for me to give birth naturally again. If you haven't had a baby before or had a c sec previously it is probably going to be quite difficult for you to give birth to two bubs vaginally. But don't feel pressured into anything you're not comfortable with make sure you are armed with all the facts before being bullied into something. The docs like to give epidurals because it makes things easier for them, there are far too many unnecessary c sections happening in Australia for my liking. I may end up having an epidural in the end anyway, but I would just like to give the Tens a go before to see if I can handle it without drugs, mainly because it's better for bubs.
Hi Ladies,
Hannah thanks for the info I have been looking around for a pg pillow but was not sure which one to go for they are very hard to find, I will keep an eye out for the body pillow. I might have to order off the internet. That is a good point about the twins always having a play mate I haven't thought that far yet all I keep thinking about is breastfeeding 2 babies arrrrrh.
Kezza great weights. You would think they would let you have a tens machine earlier then normal because of twins. I can't believe your 33 wks I hope you are getting plenty of rest. I am so excited for you.
Bella its great when you buy the first thing for your bubs you can't imagine them fitting in to the clothes or wraps.
I haven't got the result yet I guess I have to wait for after the weekend now :wall:
Hannah I have just read your ticker and found out you have a 2 year old how did she cope with the twins coming. Is she interacting with them? How did you interduce her to them? That is one of the thing I am a bit nervous about. I have a 20 month old and I am not sure how she will cope and I am nervous that I will be busy with the twins to do all the things that we do together and she would feel left out which is not what I want her to ever feel.
Hi everyone! Hope you're all well.
Thanks for the tips Hannah. It's so nice to get some input from mums who have been there.
I found out at my 20 wk scan that it's possible for separate placentas to be identical twins as well. I highly doubt it for me - IVF, 2 embies transferred - but it will be interesting to see for sure. The dr said if they have diff blood types, then obviously they're fraternal. But if they have the same blood type the only way to tell for sure if they're identical or not is via genetic testing (or I suppose we could wait until they 'grow into themselves' and see if they look alike or not!)
AFM, well, I'm having a really rough time at the moment. In early May I had a big fall at work and it turns out that the impact of the fall knocked my pelvic structure out of alignment. And then this in turn has put pressure on my muscles and nerves. It got to the point where I was crying sitting at my desk at work because the pain was so bad. So I'm off work for 3 weeks to allow it to heal. It's very boring because I can't sit for long (hence the lack of posts!!), I can't drive very far, I can't walk for very long, and I'm not very good at stairs (and I have a 2 level house....). So I'm a little down in the dumps. But hopefully it will improve soon and I'll be back to normal before I know it.
Azz - not sure if this helps, but I was about 2 when my twin sisters were born. I asked my mum about precisely this the other day - how did I cope? Did I love them straight away? Was I jealous? It was a slightly different situation because mum didn't know she was having twins until the second one came out (can you imagine!!!) so she wasn't able to prepare me for two siblings in the lead-up. ALthough obviously she did prepare me for one. Apparently mum encouraged me to talk to the baby in her tummy, put my head there, listen, etc. Talked to me about what a privilege it is to be a big sister etc.
Then when they were born, my parents bought me my own 'newborn' doll and a baby bath. Mum knew she would be so busy, and needed to keep me entertained and apparently I just loved doing everything she was doing. I copied to my little heart's content. I loved bathing my baby at the same time she was bathing my sisters, I loved feeding her, burping her etc. I don't know how long it lasted, and i don't know if that's what the experts would recommend these days, but she said it certainly worked for me.
Dad also really stepped in (I'd expect that these days, but I think then it was a bit different) and he would take me on special outings on the weekend and other times he'd step in with the twins so I still had some one-one-one mum time.
And I know it was a long time ago now, but I truly don't remember feeling any sort of resentment or jealousy. I mean who really remembers life at the age of 2 anyhow. I have a few fleeting memories, but nothing substantial.
She said it became harder when the twins were old enough to play with themselves because they were just such a tight unit. They didn't need anyone else, so we never really played together or anything like that. They just didn't invite anyone into their own little world.
My boys are kicking like mad lately. I can even see my skin move when they're very active. It's the lovliest thing. I just cannot wait to meet these two little beans. I already love them so much.
Hope you're all well.
Jenx
Kezza - don't worry - lots of people really like the ez2nurse so you might find it's good for you - I just didn't like it and figured if someone can save $$ by skipping something unnecessary - it's worth it! We paid to have the DNA testing done - it cost $150 - you just do a cheek swab and send it away. IMy OB told me the hospital would do an analysis of the placentas as a matter of routine which can give an indication of ID/frat but it didn't happen. Looking at our girls now, we laugh that we paid to find out if they were identical because no one else can tell them apart - but at the time we really weren't sure! yay for the breathing! It is sucha relief to make it to 34 weeks and know that everything will probably be ok if they are born early... I can remember actually seeing my skin going up and down as bubs breathed towards the end. They were so tightly packed in there you could see everything! :)
Bella - hooray for buying baby things! it makes it feel a little more real when you start collecting baby bits and pieces. as for an epidural - I think it depends a lot on your doctor. I delivered my babies vaginally and had had a previous vag birth with my first DD and I was still pressured to have the epi. I didn't want it and told my OB so but as my girls were born on a weekend, I ended up with a different OB who fought me and reduced me to tears over having an epidural. In the end I caved and had it. If you have specific ideas about the kind of birth you want - talk about it with your doc/midwife NOW so you know where you stand. If you DO want a drug free delivery - maybe look into hiring a private midwife - I saw 3 different private OBs and 2 different public hospitals in an attempt to find someone who would support me to have a natural delivery and none of them would help me. :(
Azzrenae - you can usually get body pillows from kmart, target or bigW. If not, places like pillow talk etc sell them although they are a bit more $$ there. My DD was 22 months when the twins were born. She was a bit funny when she came to see me at hospital - wouldn't talk to me or cuddle me but she was fine when I came home. She loved the babies right from the start - it helps that they sleep a lot for the first little while, I guess! By the time they started demanding more constant attention, I think she'd forgotten that she ever had me to herself. We really didn't start to have any problems with her until the babies learnt to crawl because then they could interrupt her games and steal her toys etc. Now we do have small problems with her snatching from them or hitting them when she gets frustrated but that is only recent. She also pretend to be a baby a LOT - walks like them, asks to wear a nappy etc etc. I just try and give her lots of positive attention that focuses on the things she can do because she's a 'big girl' and not a baby. Not sure if it's working but I'm trying! :) We did have a present for her at the hospital when they were born too.
She came right up to see me the morning the babies were born. In hindsight, I should have waited until the afternoon when I'd been moved to my room, had a chance to shower and dress etc so it was a little less intimidating. HTH!
Jen - oooh so sorry to hear about your fall. That's the last thing you need when you're already coping with the discomforts of a twin pregnancy. Hopefully your recovery is quick so you can be up and about quickly. Nothing worse than being out of action and going stir crazy. Isn't that so amazing watching them wiggle about. I really miss that feeling! I see you're in Brissy - where abouts are you? we're down in Ormeau - so gold coast really.
It's a bit of fun to hear peoples pregnancy stories. Makes me wish for my tummy back! Good luck to everyone and hope the baking continues.
wow busy morning!!
Hannah - gosh you are a wealth of knowledge and advice please stay around!!!!
AFM - i had all these great dreams of a natural delivery (before i knew i was having twins!) where i would labour at home for as long as i could, i wanted to be active and drugfree - although being a nurse i'm not afraid of having to have meds or epi or even a c-sec if it's required. I am comfortable to have to do whatever to ensure i have healthy and happy babies - it's about them more than me! When i found out i was having twins i automatically assumed i would have to have a c-sec - i was pleasantly suprised to read of many many people having a vag del with twins. I was going to have the babies at my work but given the potential intervention rate with twins felt i wanted to be in a bigger hospital with better access to specialists plus at my work none of the obs except one whom i don't like allow twin vag del they c-sec them all! So off the the specialist biggest hosp to their multiple birth clinic - they have been fantastic so far and i really haven't had an opportunity to talk about the del yet! Am reading alot and will be armed with lots of knowledge and being a nurse i'm confident and am happy to fight for my rights!!!!!
sorry for the long post! You did well if you read it all!
Jen sorry to hear your in so much pain- hope you turn a corner sooner rather than latter!
I can't wait to start feeling these little ones move - i'm jelous!
Have a great weekend everyone
xxBella
Hi Jenc I remember you saying a while back that your tail bone was sore when sit down for to long. It must of been a pretty bad fall to move your pelvis ouch its good you can have time off to heal and rest, how the pain when you lie down? Thanks alot for your tips its great to hear I was going to buy DD a little doll that she can bath as she is starting to follow what I do now she has started to vaccum, pretend to wash the dishes and wipe the benches down it so cute. I will definately get her one. My DD has also said he will take her out on outings and he can also look after the twins and I can have some one on one it with her.
I really hope you found someone that will support you with your birth plan you sound like you are flexible with it. I asked my OB about a natural delivery she said she normally does about 2 sets of twins a year and its 50/50 she said it all depends on the positions of the babies she drew me 5 different positions and out of those 5 only 2 were natural deliveries and the other 3 were c/s. A friend told me if you get on your elbows and knees pop your bum in the air  sometimes the babies will turn to the highest point of your body which will be your bum:lol: She had to go to hospital to do that as she didn't want to have a c/s and her bub was in breech position and yes it did work for her not sure if it would work with twins as there wouldn't be to much room for them to move. How funny can yo picture that
Hannah thanks for your tips on DD I can imagine my DD doing that to them as well she is very attached to her toys at the moment, if I have friends over and there babies are playing with her toys she runs around the house picking them all up so they can touch them even if she has not played with the those toys for a while. She eventually gives in and lets them play with them:rolleyes: Its a great way to get her to pick up her toys:lol:
