Celebraty Twins??

Hi there everybody!

My question is in regards to the Enormous number of celebraties having twins... If it is unethical for doctors to be handing out fertility drugs to be people who don't really need it then how can this large number be explained!?

Interested in your thoughts!!

I dunno, I just assumed they *did* need the fertility drugs, or ivf. Celebs can be infertile too I guess Thats one of the 'risks' of infertility meds, the chance of concieving multiples. To get them naturally you would have to either ovulate twice or have the cells split, both of which you can't control And I don't think a doctor would prescribe fertility meds just so you might get twins unfortunately.

Age is also a factor in multiples, as far as I know - as in, the older you are, the more chance there is of releasing more than one egg during a cycle, and also more chance of a fertilised egg splitting into two (or more!). That being said though, advancing age can obviously negatively impact your chances of conceiving at all so I wouldn't count on that to get you multiples!

Over 35s have a higher chance of multiples. I'm an oddball as I release 2 eggs when I ovulate, both fertilised and one split and BAM triplets

please dont take this the wrong way but as a mum of twins ,in some ways, it disturbs me that you want to try for twins

the risks for preterm labour and prem birth, the toll on your body and medical intervention required, and the fact that the divorce rate and risk of PND is double than the general population with multiples, due to the stress and pressure, is testament to how hard it is having a multiple birth .

dont get me wrong- i love my twins to death and wouldnt swap them for quids but be careful what you wish for- it may seem cute and nice, but it isnt all that
having a singleton is hard enough but twins isnt just double everything- its double plus more!!!!
and well for triplets- man i take my hat off to you for staying sane lol

Firstly, I don't think the number of twins born to celebrities is all that high, it's just that we hear about it more often because they're famous.

Secondly, whether or not the celebrities needed fertility treatment really is a private issue, so it's not like it's anyone's business how they conceived. We can surmise that their fertility specialist is "unethical" but we don't actually know their medical history or if/why they accessed fertility treatment, cause it's none of our business.

And thirdly, I think discussions about accessing fertility treatment for the sole purpose of conceiving twins trivialises the seriousness and gravity of twin pregnancies, and is also (personally, IMO) offensive to those who access fertility treatment for infertility.

As PP's have said, naturally conceiving twins is not something you can make happen - it's not something that can be controlled or manipulated.

A little off the original topic, but I think it is worth mentioning, considering the title of the thread

Many of the "older" celebrity mums happily pose for photo's with their gorgeous new babies in magazines, the pictures are lovely to look at, and as a women with AMA using fertility treatment to concieve, gives me some hope, that we may be so lucky.

However sometimes I wonder if they are setting women of AMA in the general public, up for dissapointment, IMO and unfortunatly estensive experience in ART, the chances of the children not being from Donor Eggs over the age of 43 is quite slim. It is totally their business whether or not they disclose this information, as it IS very, very personal.

It's just the magazines glossy pretty pictures, often dont tell the full story

I have boy/girl twins and they are my world. I really don't care about celebrities.
