Yay! :happydance:
WOW - A huge congrats Mrs S. That is so exciting. All the best.
Thanks to everyone for the help with the FF v BF, including those who PM me. So sorry I didn't get to reply to your messages. It's been hectic. But thankyou so much.
I missed your ff bs BF debate hope what did you end up going with?
I'm dreading tomorrow I'm on tears everytime I think about it, how am I going to leave hospital and leave my boys here?
How can I when I live a 30 min drive away yet can't drive after a c/s get back to the hospital everyday for feeds I can't get DD2 looked after everyday nor can I chase her around SCN whilst I'm expressing
I think next to saying goodbye to Anthony this is the toughest parenting moment

As of the weekend my boys are purely FF. I agonised and agonised over the decision but in the end my body made the decision for me. I feel at peace with it though. One less thing for me to worry/get stressed about.
I found it hard to leave the hospital without my boys. I was doing ok until I went to get into the car for the first time and the capsules were empty and then we got home and their bedroom was empty. Everyone deals with the situation differently though. We did it for 5 days before we were able to bring them home so I guess we were pretty lucky on the length of time. There was another lady in SCN with us who also had twins. She lived about half hour away also so she stayed in a hotel during their stay in SCN. She had a three year old daughter and sometimes she brought her into scn and other times she was able to get her looked after. In the SCN we were in there was a little room that had some toys a tv and a video player so that came in handy for her. All the best with this part of your journey. I hope you work something out that works for you.
Congrats Mrs S! I had the same experience with SCN, and I reacted the same way as Hope. When I was told by the hospital that they were discharging me, but the girls had to stay. I was beside myself, but they were only there a week, so it wasn't so bad after all. It just feels totally unnatural to go home without your baby or babies. Thinking back I think it's all the hormones and things that your body is going through that accentuate those feelings even more. Try to think positive and keep telling yourself it's not for long. Luckily our Hospital had a special family room and after the 3rd day of being in special care, we were able to stay in there along with my partner and 5 year old son. It made things so much easier being able to be there for feeds and keep up with their routine once we'd come home. One piece of advice I will give that I wish I had done, is ask the nurses for a copy of the sheets they use to monitor the babies feeding, bowel movements and temps etc. It will make it so much easier when you take them home. When you are sleep deprived you are not thinking straight, it's hard to remember which baby has fed well or not so well and which one pooed etc. So when the health nurse comes to visit you at home, you will have it all written down. I felt like such a numb nuts when I couldn't tell her which baby did what!!!
Hope I am so sorry, I totally forgot about that bottle holder! I have dug it out, will get to you asap! And I hope you are managing to get some rest and help.
Hello everyone! I still haven't had time to go back over the previous pages and catch up on what's going on but I don't think I'll I'll ever have time again :)
I'll start off by introducing myself a little bit.. Our girls are almost 10 weeks old and our DS is 3 and a half. He is absolutely loving being a big brother - it has actually really surprised us at how well he has handled the whole arrival of his sisters.
My girls are identical - super super identical at the moment. It is a little scary at times because I think I will mix them up. Had a little heartattack at the chiropractors yesterday when halfway through I thought I had given him the wrong baby :o, but it was all ok. DS just calls them "My sweeties" because he doesn't know which one is which!
The girls are going pretty well - it is so so much work as you would all know but I am actually enjoying it. With DS I was completly clueless, so it's better this time. Natuarally I have my moments where I want to tear my hair out, or mourn the fact I will not be able to run into the supermarket to grab milk quickly for at least the next 4 or so years!
Congrats on your new arrivals MrsS! Hope all went well yesterday. As the other girls said, leaving the SC nursery is so hard. I had a little meltdown thinking about it the other night. My girls got transfered to one closer to the city so I was up there without DH or DS for the first 10 days. It was very hard, but I guess in some ways a bit easier because I only had to worry about me and the babies. When they got transfered to our local hospital, it was a little harder in terms of DS. I just took a little chair for him to sit on and lots of food and games to keep him occupied. The nurses were fantastic with him too, and we went off to the cafe a few times to have a hot chocolate and a bit of time together. Whatever happens, just keep thinking they will be home with you soon!
Hope - it's such a hard decision on the whole FF/BF, isn't it. I think we are heading towards FF full time as well here. I enjoy feeding the girls but I think it is coming to an end. I am happy we got this far - 10 weeks probably doesnt sound very far to some but with twins it's a lifetime practically! Hope your boys are doing well. Are they identical?
Oh, I think my time is up on here. I hear two little girls starting to stir. Look forward to chatting with you all - when we can all find the time :p
Thats ok. Thankyou so much again. I really appreciate it.
mrscricket: Hello and Congrats to you. My boys aren't identical, I dont know how I would handle it if they were, lol. I would probably be having a zillion heart attacks.
Well that bit of quiet time was short lived. Gotta go, two screaming boys.
Hey everyone
Today is my discharge day I'm hiding in the nursery the ward nurses don't come in here
Both boys have had a few mins on the breast today so a small step forwards

Hello everyone! Thought I would pop in and say hi in our *very understandably* quiet thread :D. How is everyone going? Our girls are now 12 weeks old and going very well. I am LOVING having twins - much more than I ever thought I would. I was so frightened at the start because people were pretty much like "Oh twins.. I could never cope with twins. That would be so hard" - it really didn't sound very positive! But we seem to be getting into a pretty good routine and had our first 'sleep through the night' last night! Unfortunately I was awake from 5am convinced they were going to wake up soon! Starting to be able to tell them apart a little bit easier now - noone else really can. DD1 has more hair and a slightly different shaped face. Everyone keeps saying 'It would be great if they had a birth mark on their bum or something' which I totally dont get, as you would have to keep undressing them lol.
Ahh better go - one of the girls is not obeying instructions ("Go to sleep so Mummy can fold washing and watch the dvd that has been sitting on the bench for 3 weeks while your brother is a creche!")
hope your instructions get obeyed soon!
i have the MCHN due here in half an hour and very very nervous at the last weigh in it seemed Jackson didnt put any weight on (although she had to try 2 sets of scales as the 1st showed he lost 200g in 3 days) but hadnt lost any so we are praying for a gain today otherwise they say they will have to hospitalise him and feed him through a tube again :( i dont get it though because hes attaching fine and feeding lots his brother on the other hand is piling the weight on and turning into a little porker!
Hi there,
I am not sure if anyone is out there still on this thread but I am 7w +5 days pg with identical twins and would love some company:)
My FS / OB is certain they are identical because I had an IVF FET and only one embryo was put back in - so they are also a MASSIVE surprise.
Are there any other twin threads I should also be looking at? The stories in here have helped so much so thank you
X
Yay! I was so excited to see this thread come back up in my subscribed posts. Congratulations! It is such exciting (and overwhealming) news!
My identical twin girls turned 1 on Tuesday, and what a year it has been! Crazy busy but amazing at the same time. I know I have said it before, but I am surprised at how much I absolutely love being a twin mum. My funny little girls have such great personalities - although they look almost exactly the same (DD2 has a ear that sticks out which is really their only difference), they are quite different in character.
TTL - the only other thread that I can think of that might be of some help to you is the one that SarahRach posted on ob guidelines for identical twins. She sadly lost her boys to twin to twin transfusion but worked amazingly hard to get the guidelines changed in reagrds to the frequency of scans that id twin mums should have. I will try to dig up the link when I am on the computer next.
One thing I will say is don't google too much! I did  and freaked myself out constantly. There is so much that *can* be difficult with twin pregnancies but I think (now in hindsight) that it is also something you have to just rest as best you can, and trust your docotrs and your own instincts. There is a fab twin book that I read called Twin - A practical guide (I think) and the authors are Katrina Bowman and Louise Ryan. It was Australian so lots of the info is relevant, and I found it great to read through their stories.
I shall try to return later to type more - just put the girls down to sleep so I must get some housework done and maybe a little snooze for me while DH entertains DS. Lots of wake ups here last night - I am hoping it is finally a sign of teeth - still NONE at 12 months :o
Hi MrsCricket and thank you so much for responding! Your advice is invaluable! I've spooked myself with google already - I have no idea if my twins are mono amniotic or e other one mono something that is better because they are divided:) amateur hour here! My OB didn't seem concerned at the scan and I was too shocked to ask many questions except what are the chances both will make it ( he said good, we will scan every week and watch closely for TTTs or whatever the transfusion issue is called.
It's taken DH two days to understand why identicals cant be a boy and a girl (and he's a scientist by training) - finally he believes me now. I would be happy with boys or girls - but now I know it's twins I really hope they are girls. I cannot imagine living in a house with me and 5 males!! Plus I think twin girls sound gorgeous. However if they are boys they will be lved and we will be thrilled.
I still can't believe there is two of them. I'm freaking out about everything from cars, to prams to moving house. I know we will be fine, but I just hadn't even considered it as a possibility so I can't even really believe it is happening. I'm terrified of how I will tell them apart, do the grocery shopping and ever return to work. Plus I imagine the cost of raising two is insane.
However I read this entire thread last night and realize people do it and do it very well, I feel better and more confident we will cope.thank you so much for the book recommendation! I will buy a copy tomorrow xx
Hi TTL, Congratulations on your wonderful news of twins. I am so happy for you. I totally understand how your feeling about hearing that your having twins. It didn't sink in for me for a long time. And yes, I did the whole google thing too and totally freaked myself out about all the "could's" through a twin pregnancy. But I had no drama's. I got to 37 weeks and still no sign of the little cherubs coming into the world so my OB decided to take them out. My only advice would be enjoy every moment of the pregnancy and rest as much as possible.
Can you believe it, I'm a mummy to ONE YEAR OLD twin boys. Where has the time gone. A year has gone so quick. M & R are so cute (well I think so). They interact with each other so well. I'm sure they talk to each other in their own little mumbo jumbo. They chase each other around the house giggling and they wrestle. Both are walking - or should I say running. They still don't say anything that i can understand. We occasionally get a mum mum or dad dad. I'm sure it will come eventually.
Hello to everyone. Hope you are all well and that the wonderful world of twins isn't being to hectic for you all.
How cute is your little ticker Hope! Congrats on surviving the first crazy year! I cannot believe how quick it has gone. I love that your boys are walking. Still crawling here, and both climbing everything - ekk! DS was never a climber. I keep finding them both standing up on the coffee table, or if we are outside, they climb up the slide and almost make it to the top. I brought them both a baby slide but they are more interested in DS's big slide. Lucky I am blonde to hide the grey hair they are giving me lol :)
Thanks mrscriket, it's a lilypie ticker.
Thats funny about the coffee table. I bet they think they are so clever when they get up there. Pfft, baby slide, we can nail this big slide mum (lol). There are so many funny stories to tell with twins isn't there.
