    Smile 2nd sac & can't see what's in it!

    Hi ladies,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with early twin scans not showing very much?

I had an 8 wk scan yesterday that showed a 2nd sac, but we couldn't see what was in it. At first I thought that must mean the twin has died, but then I did some research on ultrasounds that looked like what we were looking at yesterday, and realised that the contents of the 2nd sac was probably hidden by the fluid in the first sac, and that we were only looking at the edge of it. For example, when your bladder is really full it can block the view of everything behind it during a vaginal scan, which is why they ask you to empty your bladder before vaginal scans.
My GP was annoying and didn't want to do a vaginal scan to get a better look - he said to wait two weeks and come back and see him at 10 weeks. PFFFFT, yeah right I'm going to wait that long!!! So I am going to another hospital to see an ultrasound tech and get her to do a vaginal check for a 2nd baby - I have to know!!!

Did anyone else have a similar issue with visibility during their first early scans? This is my very first pregnancy after a desperate 3 years to fall pregnant so any advice to soothe my anxiety would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!
    Teresa

    Hi mummy in training,
I can't help much except to say that at 8 weeks I had a vaginal scan, the external ultrasound did not really show enough so we changed to vaginal. I hope you can get into another hospital to put your mind at rest, another 2 weeks seems so long to wait, wishing you all the best. xx

    Hi Baby Dreamtime,

Thanks so much for responding, I know you ladies must get lots of questions like this.

I've done lots of research and it appears to be quite common not to see the second baby until around 10 weeks, so I guess my doctor is right to advise me to wait - but I hate the waiting, it's torture!

I am just praying and hoping that the second baby is 'viable' and getting everything he or she needs from me. I feel quite guilty not knowing that he or she was there, and worried that I have not been taking enough vitamins and folic acid.

Nothing to do now than wait I suppose. If anyone else had difficulty spotting the 2nd baby please let me know, I'd love to hear your story.

I know my cousin had an early scan which showed only one sac, then when she went for her 12 weeks scan they found twins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So it is highly possible to be twins for you!!! Goodluck

Best of luck, my twins were clearly visable at 10 week but I didnt have an earlier scan. My cousin had confirmed twins at 12 weeks and then they found a triplet at her 20 week scan so anything can happen!
