Probably a silly question, but we only live in Australia for about 6 months and I will give birth in a few months, but we don't know much about the health care system here (it is very different from the system in our home country).
The question is: Can you take a doula when you are going to give birth in a private hospital?
We are here for 2 years for the company my husband works for, and after those 2 years we will return home.
I'm a doula, no need to ask the hospital, we are counted as one of your maximum allowed 3 birth support people, and they can be anyone you want to no need to double check with the hospital
I'd say about 50% of my births have been in private hospitals. No permission required At either a public or private hospital you take the support people of your choice...if you wish to have a doula you don't need approval of either the hospital or your obstetrician.
