    Student doula in Newcastle

    Hello!

Maybe we can help each other!

I hope to help you by providing a birth that will give you experience and help you get closer to gaining your qualification.

You could help me by attending my birth, providing emotional and physical back up especially when my partner gets too tired. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant.

    My history :

    - This is birth #4. I have had 3 healthy babies, all birthed vaginally.
    - My last birth was an extra large baby. This resulted in TRUE shoulder dystocia. There was no reason it occured other than a large baby and perhaps some emotional holdups. I was in optimal position, there was no intervention, no forceps used, he just got plain stuck! Three manoevers where performed - McRoberts, subpruabic pressure (can't spell) and internal rotation of posterior shoulder which he was finally born. Apgars of 5, so not born too well, but he was okay in the end. I am expecting to have another large baby this time.
    - I tend to have a posterior labour on and off (but more on), back pain is excruitiating, but the baby is born the right side up. There is speculation that it's the shape of my uterus that makes my back hurt badly in labour, rather than baby position. I don't get a let up between contractions in the last stages, my back just hurts the whole time.
    - My first two labours were done without drugs at all. My third labour was prolonged and much more painful and I used gas.
-I have breastfed my last three children successfully and am still bfing my toddler now and plan to probably tandem feed.
-I have not experienced any tearing in any birth.
    - I have suffered PND after every birth.
    - I have an abusive background from both childhood and a previous marriage. I am sensitive to unsupportive people that judge me and also respond fearfully in labour if I feel threatened and thus stops labour.
    - I have an inner good girl I struggle with at times

This baby is going to be born if all goes well in an INDEPENDANT birth centre in Newcastle. It is 20 minutes away from the hospital. There are no OBs at the birth centre, and if anything happens, it's a transfer via ambulance, approx 20 minutes. This birth centre offers, no drugs, a water birth and an environment 100% supportive of natural birth. I expect to go home 4 hours after the birth. I live 1.5 hours from this birth centre on a good traffic day. THis birth centre is overseen by Dr Andrew Bisit who is wonderful, and he has reviewed me and my history and given me the go ahead to be able to birth there, pending an appt at 34 weeks where the size of the baby mainly will be assessed. He believes that the SD last time was also caused by some emotional factors of a nasty midwife and I 'held back' because of that as well as the significant larger baby I had. He believes that with proper management and proper preparation that even a larger baby should be birthed successfully this time. For this reason he is approving me for this birth centre.

In the event of something going wrong, I will be transferred to JHH hospital. I will require a doula to accompany me there and if needed, be my voice there if needed and if I'm put in one of those horrid birthing suite medical rooms, help me as much as possible to deal naturally with the pain. Drugs are not an option.

If you would like to experience and help me in my labour, and are eager to help me to achieve another natural childbirth in a supportive setting (Hopefully) I would love to hear from you. For safety reasons, I would like to be PMed here and not put up my email address so I can be assured that contacts are genuine.

Thankyou for reading this far .
