Just a quick question. When did people start ringing and organising a private midwife/doula? I have already organised my OB, but was thinking of waiting until the end of the first trimester before ringing around for a midwife/doula.
I saw a thread re a doula in my area in early February - I was about 7 weeks at the time. At that stage I was just making enquiries at the time but we met not long after that and then not too long after that DP and I decided to go with her.
it wont hurt organising a doula sooner rather than later.
from when i started looking and when i actually found one i liked, it was probably about 2 months. i found it hard organising to meet with them as i was either working or they were working.
also, 'shop around' til you find someone you really like. it would be awful of you left it too late and had to settle with someone you werent 100% sure of.
I booked in with our doula at around 20 weeks, and she told me then I was quite organised as alot of women don't contact her until much closer to the birth. Only a couple of weeks ago she said she had been contacted by several women wanting to book with EDD's close to mine but she knocked them back due to having our birth pencilled in.
I got a doula at 38 weeks...it was a last minute decision LOL
the best decision we ever made mind you! Squeezed in 1 visit and lots of calls/emails and DS was born a week later. Next baby I'll be booking her in straight away.
