Christening cake & jewlery for niece

So now that the Christening day for my neice is on the 31st of May and it gives everyone plenty of notice to get prepared and respond and so forth. We are getting her a beautiful white gold chain, for the cross that she already has which matches her mums, from Tiffany & Co, which I though was a bit special. We've chosen the one we want just have to go and pay for it and pick it up. I'm wondering what kind of cake is appropriate for a Christening. I want something really nice. I'm Godmother and DH is Godfather so we want to really treat her but we don't want it to be silly either IYKWIM? Does anyone have any ideas, hints or advise on what would be appropriate. I've looked on youtube, and some wedding books (Just for ideas) and I've inquired at Eiffel tower, Fantasy cakes and I'm guessing we'll probably be spending around the $200-250 dollar mark. Does this sound like it's appropriate for about 35-40 people ?

TBH that sounds EXTREMELY expensive for a cake for that amount of people - now I dont live in Melb so am not familiar with those particular cake shops, but over here in Perth under $100 will get you an amazing cake for that amount of people.

I come from a big European family so have seen lots of different christening cakes but at the end of the day most of them have a cross, the childs name and the christening date on them. They dont have to be too elaborate at all.

The cross does sound lovely tho.

hahaha! I know I thought that maybe it is a bit over the top but I'm just excited? I think most celebration cakes here are around that price though so anyone in Melbourne who knows where I can get a substantially cheaper, (but still very nice) Christening cake please, please let m know And yes it has to feed 35-40 big eating Europeans haha!
